Just found a great money box that one of the kids got years ago from Halifax.

It has save 4 it on it. and shows the amount you have with lines to give values. The £2 stops at £40 so will now transfer to savings account when I get to that level.

    Holds:

    £2, £1, 20p, 10p, 5p

Cannot remember how old it is but as my kids are now 18 and 22 it must be a few years old.

Have now decided to hijack the OH's saving of the other coins.

Has anyone else got one of these money boxes?

Oh got another one at work so now have 8 which equals £16.

oh need to up date sig!

Yeah we've got a couple of them at home.

Yes but if you fill your piggy up full, then the money you saved will be a huge amount and you will see your debts paid off quicker. It's much more rewarding to pay off a debt with say £500 in £2 coins then if you pay it off at £2 a time :D

Go and get yourself a tin that holds £500 in £2/£1 coins and see how quickly it fills up :T

Also once the tin is full, you may have enough to offer a full and final payment on a larger debt

that's stupidly wishful thinking...it may be far more mentally rewarding paying off your debts in a nice big lump of £2 coins but it is definately not more financially rewarding !!! paying the £2 towards your debt everytime you get them makes far more financial sense. I understand the premise of saving £2 coins as a little extra money saving scheme, but saving them for the purpose of paying your debt off with them all in a gazillion years, as you suggested, is downright stupid and shouldn't really be encouraged as a good debt clearing strategy for anyone on this board.

Keeping all your £2 coins from the month in a tin then paying them to your credit card company on top of your budgeted payment at the end of each month will be much more economically sensible.
