It might help if you told us what your job at the bank actually is as then the bc bankers amongst us can advise you better.DxFree impartial debt advice available from: National Debtline - Tel: 0808 808 4000 | The Consumer Credit Counselling Service (CCCS) - Tel: 0800 138 1111 | Find your local Citizens Advice Bureau

Hi ttt. I just want to welcome you and can see that you have been given supportive advice. I would just say stick with the CAB but ask for an appointment with a specialist debt advisor. They should give you an appointment so you don't have to wait. I would then want to get my housing arranged and they will be able to help you out with that too.

Just ask away ttt....as D says we have all been / going through it.
Speak to as many debt charities as you can though....(see Dalip signature) & remember BR is the last resort but if you take that step as an `informed` decision then you can hold your head ( & hands) up & know that you have done the sensible thing....irrespective of what others opinion(ie family/partners etc)might be!!
You are making your life right so you can look forward to the future with your little boy not having to worry about being harrassed & chased for money you don`t have.
Remember `its not how we get into this situation...its how we deal with it & move on that counts`.

Hi again tt
I see you're not in the union at work. Do you mind me asking which union it is? Because it may well be worth joining them, or at least speaking to them to see if they can help. I would be very surprised if they haven't heard from some of their members about this very thing, so might be able to give you some basic assistance. If you have the name of the union, you don't even need to be at work to contact them - they will probably have a branch number you can call.
Secondly, with regard to you internal internet - I'm impressed that they have that level of information out there (ours is slightly more out of date, and definitely a lot vaguer when it comes to stuff like this  ) - I know you're off sick, but is there a way for you to double check what it actually says? It may well say may be dismissed, but if you were reading it quickly you may have misinterpreted it??
Now that you are not in work, can you not call the HR department and ask for an anonymous chat? The reason I say this is because I work for the council, and we have a special 'whistle blower' line we can call anonymously if we don't wish to give our name. Also, when I was going BR I spoke to our HR department and simply gave a hypothetical scenario to which they let me know what would happen. Mind you, if you have made up your mind to go BR you might as well tell them who you are, because as you say they will find out sooner or later anyway.
However, what does strike me more than anything is that you still haven't had any OFFICIAL advice, which you MUST do. We cannot in good conscience tell you going BR is the best thing for you to do, because we don't have all of the information. Yes, it can sound to us that it would be appropriate, but calling and speaking to someone like CCCS or National Debtline will give you that final clarity.
I can appreciate how you might not want to end up in council premises, but remember, repossession can take some time. During that time, you should be able to save up not only your BR fees, but also enough to put down a hefty deposit on a private rental. I can see how tough it is - as you said, you barely have enough money to feed you and your son, but if you make the final decision to go BR then you stop paying all of those bills and can start saving.
I can imagine how difficult it is to keep all of this straight in your mind - so many different strands to what's really going on - but this forum is incredibly caring and there will always be someone there to help people who are in real need.Get free advice before embarking on bankruptcy: CCCS 0800 138 1111 National Debtline 0808 808 4000

thanks merry, ok here we go
havent got the foggiest who my union is and dont spk to anyone at work who could tell me.
the intranet page def said that its a case of instant dismissal
i have spoken to natdebline who sent out some info but whenever i call i cant get back through
i have funds for court fees now as ive decided to not pay my mort this month. wont b able to save if i get sacked as i wont have a wage. will only have whatever benefits i can get. dont have anyone to give me any cash either.0 -
Have you checked out www.entitledto.com to see if you can get any benefits? As you are on your own with your son, you may be entitled to working tax credit at least, if not a few other things. Obviously you can't get housing benefit if you're in a mortgaged property but you might be surprised how much help you CAN get.
Does his father pay anything in child support? If not, have you involved the CSA - sorry, can't think of any other way, despite the hassles I myself are having with them.
Are there any of your colleagues you could speak to and find out the name of your union? Not meaning to flog a dead horse, but if you can get some advice about your workplace from the union it really might make a big difference - with regard to their treatment of you while you are off sick. and of course the financial situation.
Until you've been able to get that official advice, you can't do anything much apart from starting to fill in the forms. So in the meantime, you can use your monthly salary to start saving - if I'm reading it correctly, they won't sack you until you go BR, and there is no need to BR until you are ready and have things arranged properly for you and your son.Get free advice before embarking on bankruptcy: CCCS 0800 138 1111 National Debtline 0808 808 4000
