OS Daily Thread - Saturday 24 January

Hi, this is the Daily Thread for Saturday 24th Jan. This is an 'Over the garden fence' type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread that we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we have achieved already. Everyone is welcome so please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred.
When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.
Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “Hi everyone, hope you are all well”, type start does just as well.

Morning friends!

Wish I could do a super weather report like N9eav, but all I can really say for sure is that it isn't raining!

SnowyOwl - good to hear from you again and good luck with the job-hunting.
Beth - thanks for the hint re peppers
Moggins - I do hope you can get something worked out at your sons school.
Ivyleaf - big hugs to you hon
Belated birthday to Aussielass!
Culpepper - well done on the weight loss hon
Donny-gal - good to hear from you, too.
N9eav - I love Masterchef, am always glued to it. I remember when it was considered only good enough for BBC2 at 1830.. now it's gone all peak time viewing!
Welcome back Sunnyday, Smokey and Silvercharming! It's good to have you back with us.
tired mum - so sorry to hear of your cats passing - it hurts so much, I know. *hugs* I just hope when Treacle goes that she falls asleep in a ray of sunshine, I know it still hurts to lose a pet but at least it was painless.

My OH went bargain hunting again so on top of the 17 peppers we already had, we now have another 5! However, I made stuffed peppers last night with a spicy rice inside and cheese on top. Cooked the rice first, then stuffed the pepper, sprinkled the cheese and about 15 mins in a hot oven and they were done. I was cooking a corned beef, no pastry quiche at the same time so the oven was used in a very OS way! The remainder will be used or frozen. Thank you everyone who gave suggestions.

My OH also got some lovely apples reduced and another granary loaf for just 30p. He is so proud of himself! We have been trying to eat from the store cupboard as much as possible but haven't paid full price for anything in over a week, so that is good. We picked up another sack of potatoes from the local farm - at £6.50 for 25kilos we are saving a lot.

I also feel a bit sorry for Obama - the expectations are so high and yet he has the same political system to work through as every other President. I am worried the bloom will fade and those expecting miracles from this one (albeit special) man, will be disappointed. Change takes time, we all know that. I just hope the worlds press give him that time.

My plan for today is to catch up on some reviews and maybe start my clicking again. I haven't done it in about 3 wks and I really should. I am the top reviewer on the site I post on and am very proud of that! Then later on I would like to bake a crumble or something with all the cheap apples we have.

Warm hugs to everyone who might like one.

Morning Diva and all who follow.

All is well here, weather is pants (unscientific) Cold, icy and everything wet.
I have work at 12, so am going to laze about the house this morning and then get ready. I might make a fry-up breakfast about 10 or brunch, then I get something to eat before I go.

Had ASDA Pizza for tea last night. You can't beat create your own pizza for only £3.18. The BBq sauce with steak is just great.

The £ slipped again. Any thought of USA holidays are fast evaporating unless something changes this year. That's going to hit their tourism me thinks.

Well, time to get some coffee and answer some e-mails

    Cheers Steve

    Good morning MSD and N9eav.

Weather dry and a bit frosty but the sun is supposed to be out later, so I must get DH to mend my washing line which broke yesterday.

Spent yesterday afternoon babysitting DGS and DGD because they were off school due to the current tummy bug. I hope they're better this morning because they are supposed to be going to the zoo today and it's DGD's birthday party tomorrow. They were over the worst when I left them, so fingers crossed.

Dinner tonight is leftover chicken casserole, which I shall do with some saute potatoes, and pudding is undecided at the moment. Might make a chocolate sponge or something.

I told DS1 and DIL about my bad back - which still aches a bit, especially when I've been sat at my desk; they've given me a Cardio ball, complete with DVD and instruction manual, to have a go with. They both said it's good but that they don't use it now that they have Wii Fit. I shall give it a proper go once I've read the instructions.

(((Hugs))) to all who are in need - there's been a lot of sadness and anxiety on here recently, so lots of (((hugs))) are needed.

Well, I'd better go and have my shower.

Will call back later. Hope you all have a good day.

    Morning :hello:

I woke up at 4am  Think I'll take some sleeping tablets tonight.

We watched the cheap food program yesterday, I annoyed mr tru by pausing it every 20 seconds to pick holes in what was being said :rotfl: I know there's a thread about it but I'm not posting on there cos it'd take me all day to type what I thought was wrong with it :D

Mr tru has been head-hunted  but in a good way :D If he takes the job we'll be rich. Well, not really but it'll feel like it :D

Our friend's chooks have started laying again (they decided to take a month off, lol) so she's supplying us again - £1.80 per dozen.

I designed some gift bags, messed about with them til I was 100% happy, went to use the printer and the ink's low AAARRGHHHH, so I have to order some today. I don't want to wait, I want to make them NOW

Hugh and his chickens are on Channel 4 at 9pm on monday.

Did anyone watch 'the hunt for Britain's tightest person' (or something like that)? I've just found out that one of the women is a moderator on the Down The Lane forum, and she has her own BLOG. If you're interested :DErm, are you interested? lol

Hope everyone is well and hugs to those who aren't, too dark to tell what the weather is doing but I bet it won't be warm! It looks like I shall have to chip away at the giant icecube to find my car :(.
I am going to get dressed shortly and go to asda and local market as OH working today so I can go early and beat the crowds, I am just going to have a mooch through some recipes so I can get the ingredients I need.

I will do some more baking today too as my fruitcake seems to be in demand:). Hopefully will be able to line dry washing today as it's supposed to be sunny but cold and windy.
Well I better get off and shower/dress so I can start the day.

Hope you all make the most of whatever your doing , chin up and be happy:)

    Morning All,

Didn't get on the computer yesterday at all as dd was on a roll doing her assignment. She's done well though & just has to finish checking it this morning.

OS today - lunch is HM Leek & Potato soup and dinner is Potato, Onion & Bacon hotpot from The Paupers Cookbook. It was going to be macaroni cheese but the hotpot is on by popular demand & I always keep the 'customers' happy!!

Hope everyone has a good day. Hugs & thoughts to everyone.

    Morning peeps:hello:
Funny how when it's the weekend and I can have a lonnnnngggg sleep, I waken 10 mins before the weekday alarm goes off
Frosty start to the day here. I leave my heating on all the time but set at only 15 and it works to keep the chill off the house through the night. My older doggie will be 10 this year and she is a bit stiff sometimes and her muscle tone is just not what it was when she was a young pup! So I like her to be cosy :) Wondering what the bill will be like though - we're due one in a few days.
WM is on with clothes from this week which I looked out last night. It will be lovely if I get them on the line today.
Planning to have my haggis tonight and tomorrow but if DSS comes today then I'll change it and have some fish with him (today anyway).
Might make some soup for portions for after work this week but it depends how |I get on at the library - must make a decent stab at this propsal because it is holding me back from finally submitting my application. Need a clear head (and I never have that after work!!) and peace to write it. Fingers crossed for today.
    ((((hugs)))) to those feeling low.
Hope the grandkids are fine for their special weekend Mioliere

    Morning everyone!

wmf - got the same problem in this house, always seem to wake early at the weekend and could sleep all day during the week ;) I think it was the washing machine spinning that woke me up this morning. Not sure if I'll get the clothes hung out or not, as it's a bit damp here just now.

I'm planning on having a day with the books, I've got exams in 5 weeks time and need to do a lot of work for them..... So, now's as good a time as any to get started. Going out this evening for the Choir dinner, so that should be good ;)

Breakfast will be porridge, lunch will be soup and bread and dinner will be at the Thai for £15 a head (BYOB!). I got a dozen fresh eggs from a colleague at wor, so must find a use for them.

Have a good day everyone and enjoy the weekend!
