I've had it with broccoli in a restaurant, and it was very nice, so I'm sure yours will be too.0

Another nice idea is to add a teaspoon of pesto to the mash and then top with thinly sliced tomatoes before putting in the oven/grill.0

Ive made fish pie with haddock, tomatoes (skinned and deseeded) onions and white sauce. The mashed potato on top was made with 2 garlic cloves, saffron and cream.Smile and be happy, things can usually get worse!0

I'd like to make a fishermans pie for dinner for 2 people and I have;
1 tin salmon (special offer)
2 fresh bits of haddock (not smoked, at least it doesn't say smoked)
Potatoes.
I can make the mash potato topping, but I'm not sure about the rest - do I mix the fish with white sauce, top with potato and sling it in the oven? Do I need to precook the haddock? Do I add white sauce or something else with the fish?
Any help appreciated. I obviously don't know what I'm doing :rotfl:
Thanks.0 -
I like to do the following (its not a trad fishpie but I like it) - squeeze lime juice over the fish. Add half-fat creme fraiche over fish (can add bit of milk if you want it more like a sauce) top with capers and more lime juice and grate strong cheddar on top. Finally add topping - mashed potatoes works well, again with some grated cheese on top to add flavour - bung in oven till cheese and potato mixture is browned mmmmnNever let your sucesses go to your head and never let your failures go to your heart.:beer:0

I usually microwave the fresh fish for a bit till it's partly cooked. flake it up a bit (remove the skin if there is any) Lay it in a casserole dish (I usually add prawns but you could add your salmon). Then pour parsley sauce over (which is basically white sauce with parsley - but I cheat and use packet mix sometimes
). top with mash. Bake in the oven for about 20 mins or until it's bubbling and the mash looks crispy.
Put cheese on the top too the other night, which was quite niceworking on clearing the clutterDo I want the stuff or the space?0 -
Butter a pie-dish.
Cook the haddock beforehand (microwave is OK), mix with tinned salmon. Meanwhile, cook the potatoes (nb: peel, cut into pieces, boil for 20 minutes until you can stick a fork into them). Drain and mash with butter, salt and pepper and some milk.
Put mashed potato on top of fish. Put in oven. It only needs heating through as it's already cooked. When nearly ready, add some grated cheese on top.

PS: A lot of cooking depends on 'feel' - I learned to cook from a woman who never weighed or measured any ingredients in her life, and DH learned the same from his Jewish grandma. 'How long to leave in oven?' 'Depends what it looks like. Perhaps 20 minutes @ 200 C - but you learn by experience'.Ær ic wisdom funde, ær wearð ic eald.

You could steam the haddock over the potatoes as they boil. Just put on plate and put pot lid on top.:j0

My lazy version of fish pie is to use whatever fish I have available, steam it, flake it and place in casserole dish with a couple of handfuls of frozen mixed veg. I then mix in a tin of condensed celery OR chicken soup, top with mashed potato and put in oven until done.
Occasionaly I will sprinkle the top with cheese and crushed crisps and pop under the grill and decorate with parsley and tomatoes.0
