Has anyone else stayed at Deveres, Gorse Hill yet? We are supposed to have two nights there in a few weeks time. Have been onto Trip Advisor and can't find anything hideous about it - would like to hear from someone who has actually been there, thanks.
We only cancelled becuase we had heard it was more of a conference centre than a romantic hotel for Valentines day, also heard that the rooms that are not in the main hotel block are not brilliant, but only facility and location wise, nothing hideous.
FEvans, I am not whinging, we just chose not to go, I was just pointing out that we get good bargains on here and when it comes to actually going to the hotel, I wonder how many of us dont go. Dont get me wrong, for £10 you cant go wrong, like another poster has said, it is only a place to sleep, just wasnt what we wanted for valentines day.0 -
From a lot of the descriptions I wonder if the £10 rooms were a cashflow excercise to generate money to revamp some of the venues. The Head Honcho (does very little work)0

I stayed at the DeVere nr Crewe (can't remember it's 'official' name) a couple of weekends back, it was lovely - nice room, lovely grounds, couple of nice pubs in the surrounding area. and had an eat all you want brekkie for £7.50....stuffed my face LOL!
Perfect weekend away for a tenner (plus 2 brekkies!)0 -

Stayed at Wokefield Park (near Reading) last weekend. Several parts to the hotel so it may be pot luck which bit you get but our room in the 'Executive' wing (i.e. conference centre) was lovely - modern, clean, quiet, spacious. Free tea and coffee, and free internet access, in reception. We are so keen to be moneysavers (what used to be called 'tight'...) that we took a picnic and ate it in our room rather than using the hotel restaurant! No complaints at all and will try another venue when there is another offer. In my experience Tripadvisor and its ilk are largely forums for moaners, and for £10 it really doesn't have to be very good to be good value...0

I've become quite wary of reviews on websites, people tend to love to rant and rave about abad experience but keep quiet when they've had a good time or it's been OK.
Ok if everyone is saying bad things then beware, but I tend to ignore one or 2 negatives on review sites, suppose it depends on how high your standards are, and after spending a night in a youth hostel in London recently then mine aren't high! :rotfl:0 -
Well I'm writing from my room in Theobalds Park, Cheshunt! We arrived half an hour ago and so far everything's fine! It seems to be in a great location, VERY close to the motorway to get to London, but in huge, lovely gardens so you'd never know how close the road actually is. OK so it's not a luxury hotel-some of the communal areas are a little tatty, wallpaper peeling off etc, but we paid £10!! What can we expect?? On the other hand, the bar is very modern and looks fab, and most importantly, our room really is lovely! It's very modern, with a huge tv and free high speed internet! I'm currently sitting by the window in our room drinking one of the free-flowing lattes-life's great!
I'll update you if anything changes, but so far so good!! =]
Off to explore now-as hubby says, I can sit glued to MSE when I get home!!!!

We had a fabulous time at Staverton Park nr Daventry! 2 nights for £20. We decided not to have the breakfast and went into Davntry instead. We've been walking around the canals, poppig in local pubs and cafes and having a lovely relaxing time. The room was lovely, very clean and quiet at night. The decor was lovely, staff helpful and coffee machine in reception fabulous!
