Is that what they call it in Scotland?! You learn something new everyday!0 -

I have never tried to hide my position on lone parents who deliberately enter into that state. I have every sympathy with people who find themselves lone parents following the break up of a stable relationship and yes as taxpayers we should and do support those parents. However those that embark on lone parenthood, with absolutely no means or intention of supporting that child except with state benefits are being selfish to my mind as well as depriving the child of both parents.
I firmly believe that until we stop incentivising young women to have children they can't support by literally paying them to do so we will continue to have the highest rate of teenage pregnancies and no doubt lone parents in Europe and this cannot be good for anyone, not the parents, the children, the taxpayers anyone.
There is loads of sex education available, most teenagers could probably teach me a thing or two. Totally free contraception...all sorts. Have as much sex as you like, I really don't care but ensure there will not be a child born as a result of your recreational sex. The child that for a lot of lone parents will mean a decade or more on benefits, and often a dead end job at the end of it.0 -
So in your eyes if a man decides he wants nothing to do with a baby conceived in a non stable relationship then the woman should just abort it to save the state some money? Lovely point of view there.
And your last sentence sums up what the media portray and hence why lone parents get such a raw deal. A decade on benefits and a dead end job? Where on earth do you get these assumptions from?
Don't answer as they are rhetorical questions as I can't have a discussion wih someone who views are best placed in headlines of the Sun.
For what it's worth though, I had forgotton about you and your victorian views about lone parents. Kinda pickles my mind how you think it would be okay for a mother that her husband of 10 years has walked out on her and her baby to claim benefits but a woman who has had a brief fling will no doubt be a no good hoper and end up in a dead end job or claiming benefits forever more.
Now I really must get to my cot as this lone parent has 2 jobs to support her daughter and I am knackered...and one of them is in the Public Sector - dead end city eh?0 -
I think its about time this thread was locked, otherwise it might descend into what we were being originally reminded of?
But I must admit that I feel a little agrieved that the thread title included the word"regulars",if an explantion of the rules needs to be issued then it should be done as a reminder to all.0 -
Pants, I just wrote a nice reply to this. Stupid computer.

kk, LG,
Please don't start this discussion on here, we're the ones that are supposed to be getting on!
We all have different viewpoints, and different lifestyles. If we want to talk about them then there are other places to do so. But please, let's not do it here?
I love you both very much (and healy too, of course!). Thank you please.Gone ... or have I?0 -
