I don't know You tell me what the problem is with single parents. I am only picking up on comments already given.
I haven't missed any point I am fully aware of both sides of the coin. Unfortunately some other people are not and judge everyone by the same standards. I wonder what you would make of my lifes tales of late. But whatever I have come out the other side, despite being driven to a breakdown, and through following my own advice.

    No further comment.

We are often accused of knowing nothing as we haven't been there, but in reality, most of us have been there and now try and pass on the info we have accumulated (often the hard way!) You may be surprised to know what some of us have been through, so please don't make assumptions.

And would you please read the threads before jumping in with criticism? Otherwise, how do you know you can trust the posters you are backing?

As for single parent bashing - I firmly believe that exists only in the imagination of certain posters on here. Also, single parents (I acknowledge I am generalising and this does not apply to every single parent) are often very quick to play that card when they don't like the advice being offered.

Lets be honest here and say that the vast majority of regular and new posters do their level best to offer advice as requested, without pre-judging anyone and without being nasty or thoughtless,on ocassions the people that ask for the advice dont always like the answers they are given, that cant be helped.

I certainly agree with that, but it is a member of the MSE Team that has started this thread. If they can't see it, then what do we do? My view is that they need to view the board as a whole, as the amount of good that is done on this board certainly outweighs any bad. However I would not hold out any hope - I have suggested this more than once, as have others, and got nowhere.
    Gone ... or have I?
  • dmg, as a regular poster here myself, I must admit lately that imho some comments have been given that are less than helpful...but NOT by board regulars, usually by newbies who don't know the netiquette here or by people who don't like the advice they were given., or by people who just want to judge every benefit claimant as a wastrel.

I don't quite know why Andrea addressed her post to board regulars, but at least the thread has served to remind everyone, new and old, that we must all treat each other with respect- even if giving or receiving tough advice.

The board 'regulars' have collectively a huge amount of knowledge and information to offer. It would be such a shame if they feel they are being 'picked on' and no longer wish to contribute.
  • Yes, agree krisskross, it would be a great shame and I for one am not going to let a few posters who get their knickers in a twist stop me from contributing to the best of my ability.

There will always be people who genuinely need help and will be grateful for advice given, even if they don't take it. It would be a shame to withdraw your services so that those people were not helped.

Yes I also agree. I would not let anyone drive me away, whether they be rude posters, sh*te stirrers, sneaks or trolls. In anycase these people come and go but those that give the help often stay.
  • I have also never seen any of this supposed single mum bashing by regular posters. I have seen rude comments made by newbies and often us regulars will step in and remind them not to judge. We give our time up for free to offer posters advise and sometimes it is thrown back in our face and now we get accused of stirring up trouble.
  • I don't see it like that, alwaysonthego, just a reminder to all - it may have been better to address it to all and not just 'regulars' . I do think, as board regulars we are big enough to rise above it!

Who remembers black saturn? She had to be one of the biggest fabricators ever to post on MSE but loads of people believed all her nonsense and roundly abused those of us that didn't.She used to run to abuse everytime anyone disagreed with her. It was always a 'witch hunt' and everyone bullied her.

She reckoned she could provide 3 meals a day for 3 of them and feed the dog for £43 a month

Ive been posting on this board a bit over the past few months. I have to say ive been given a lot of good and useful advice which has helped me get things sorted. I did get a couple of 'get a job' comments, despite the fact that i stated in my OP that my neurologist has told me not to work until my meds are sorted. But even then a lot of people came to my defence which was nice :)

In any case just saying 'get a job' probably isnt the most helpful thing, but if you ask 'why can't you work' then that can be helpful because the posters will be able to see why the person cant work and then offer more advice.

Edit: you think this board is bad, check out the Consumer Vent Board
