BSkyB broadband no longer free

  • I am not happy about the ending of the free broadband with Sky.
We are in our 70's we have the FULL TV package including sports and movies.
We do not want to go onto Sky phone as we have a good account with another supplier.
We make so few phone calls anyway we would be out of pocket.
I think if you have the full TV package you should still get the free Broadband.
Lets face it the speeds aren't that good either.
My daughter-in-law has fallen for the 3 month reduced costs, but I think she will find, after that time, she will be paying more in the long run for her phone calls and will be tied into this for 12months?
I would rather they didn't send me the Sky magazine which goes into the recycling bin!!!
  • I have been on sky talk for over a year and find it fantastic. I pay line rental to sky and my package includes all calls any time of the day except premium numbers and the odd few national rate numbers (usually 0871). There is no time limit either so I can be on the phone for 5mins or 3hrs and it doesn't cost extra.

Becauase I have a son who is constantly on the phone to his mates and they all have mobiles my bills were previously horrendous but the package I am on includes all these too. I even get caller display and the 1571 service free.

So how much does this cost - £25 monthly :j :T :rotfl:

    Absolutely FANTASTIC!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:money:
  • The last letter I had from Sky was about 3 months ago and it said that as I'd been with them for a long time my broadband wouldn't be going up when they raised the price for new subscribers. Now, as I can't remember exactly when I got that letter and it's long since been fed to the shredder, I'm wondering if there was some previous price rise I avoided or if I'll be avoiding this? Did anyone else get a letter like mine?

To be honest, if they put the price up I'll probably cancel as it's a bit border line whether it's worth the money to me I pay £30 a month for 4 mixes and Max broadband but I only watch the documentary channels, Realtime channels, and Dave/similar comedy channels.

I wonder if I could get a better deal with cable?
  • CHECK THE SMALL PRINT ON THEIR TERMS AND CONDITIONS.
I am in the first 12 months(minimum term) of my mid bb package withe them. I calleed and asked to downgrade as i am in a deal on calls with BT(now improved with free 0845/0870 calls included).
I was told no without any doubt and argued if i cannot change then why can thy within the minimum term:mad: .I was quoted T&C's by them, sadly they didn't read all the way so i did:D . Part 11 says you have the right to cancel if they do various things, which includes increasing the price more than once or by more than 10% in the min term period. I only wanted to down grade not cancel but they kept trying to get me to upgrade with phone:confused: .
Like most i didn't read the small print, but sometimes it pays.
I now get base bb for a fiver and no delay in switching, which they said would take 2 weeks without service.:j :j :j :j :j :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:
    Good Luckall:money:
  • I rang Sky broadband to cancel my Mid Broadband and they have frozen it at £5 for 6 months. This was after I told them that B.T. had offered me their Broadband for less than £5 a month for 3 months and then less than £10 for the remainder of the contract. Hope this makes sense as this is my first time!!
  • Just read kiddyguy's message. I too am in first twelve months of contract and B.T. package. They tried to get me to take out Sky Talk or downgrade to base but when I insisted I wanted to cancel (as it said in the letter I received from them that if I was not happy with the changes I could cancel without charge) they came up with the offer to freeze my price for 6 months.

i have been with sky about 4 years, with sky broadband nearly two years. I rang up to cancel and they gave me a MAC code without any hassle. Clearly I'm not an important enough customer for them. Oh well. At £10 for the Mid, I'll stick with them for the moment until something cheaper comes along.
  • i am another customer who is disgusted with sky. i have recently cancelled my broadband and my multiroom and gone with O2. As an O2 customer you can now get cheap broadband for a year at least. i was offered free broadband (up to 8 meg) or £2.50 for up to 20 meg download speed which i opted for so i have save £12.50 per month on the multi-room and broadband with the extra benefit of getting faster download speeds.
You can also get free sims from the O2 site so you can become an o2 customer which will entitle you to reduced charges on the broadband offer.

I have been considering O2 for a while. How were you offered free broadband and the 20Mb option for £2.50 ?? Did you go to Retentions??? Are you on it 'free for life' or just 12 months?

I find I am actually better off by £5. I was on mid package but downgraded to base and took sky talk. I do not know how long I will be having free sky as I have gone over the 2gb a month. I was reluctant to take sky talk but it is handy to get free calls in the evenings. I use 18185 for my other calls and I am happy the way it is.
