BSkyB broadband no longer free

I received a statement from BSkyb yesterday and they are now commencing charging £5 per month for their 2Mps services. I would mind but I only get about 300kps throughput not 2Mbps.
So that's £51 for Sky+ package with sky sports, films and broadband. Anyone know of any good alternatives? Alternatively I'm thinking of canning Sky altogether as they've lost a few of the key sports over the past couple of years.

But its only £21.50 a month if you take a minimal Sky package.
The 2Mbs base offering is still free if you take Sky Talk. That gum you like is coming back in style.0 -
sky talk is £10!
i've got 2 mix tv packages and mid broadband, and in march going upto £27.50. thinking if my mid broadband is worth it or not, or reduce to base?0 -
sky talk is not £10 it is free for the evening and weekend. £5 for the anytime package. the £10 is if you transfer your BT to SKY and hence pay your line rental to them, and if you do that at the moment you get 3 months free in most cases.0

If your distance is that great or line that poor you only get less than 1/2 Mb then any ADSL provider is gonna give the same speed. There are options (like taking the free sky talk package) that will reduce the BB price by £5 again but unless you want to do that then the only viable alternative will be a cable supplier and that may see a significant price change for you.0

My sky broadband is actually free now as I subscribed to sky talk freetime & downgraded from mid to base. I do not long how long it is going to be free as I find 2gb is not enough for me, I need an extra 1gb. I guess, I will have to go back to mid later on.0

sky is a ripoff why pay for channels that dont get watched and repeated programs0

*From 1.3.09, Sky Broadband Base, Mid and Max will increase by £5 per month unless you have Sky Talk. Sky Talk pricing and call rates may vary, current rates can be found at sky.com/skytalk
and guess what you can sign up free for skytalk but its a 12 month contract0 -

Actually the £10 is monthly line rental, something you will pay BT for anyway so why is it such a big deal changing your phone provider if it means free broadband.
You do not have to sign up to Skytalk for 12 months, its the broadband service that is a 12 month contract. Not sure how that stands if you already have Sky broadband but no Skytalk.0
