what about a horse? we have one horse which is a family pet - he doesn't cost us anything to keep as he is over at a friends house who keeps him in return for riding him - the only thing we pay is his insurance which we pay monthly by direct debit. Think he probably worth about £2,500!something missing0

If you want to keep the horse then i wouldn't mention him. Who is going bankrupt and whose account does the insurance come out of?
I have heard of horses having to be sold before which is why I ask.

claire,
Speaking as one horse lover to another I think you will find that your horse is worth faar faar less that £2.5k in this economic climate ..... if you get my drift....;)
And why should the question of his value come up - don't even mention him.

If the OR sees the insurance payments on bank statements they may ask what it is for. They don't see horses as family pets. Not fair but true.

My OR told me that someone had a horse worth £700, and they had to pay £500 to keep him, that's how he's told me I'm going to have to pay around 75% of the valuation to keep my snake and spiders.:T 434 of 2008 :j0 -

They aren't going on my valuation though for my pets, the auction house is being brought in to do it, so they may not have a say in the valuation

It's unfortunate that spid's OH mentioned the pets in passing and the OR latched onto them, but I doubt they'll be able to see it through.
The dogs are 3 and 7 years old, the cost to buy them at the time was alot but as for resale value i personally think you would'nt get anywhere near what was paid for them. You're right, why do they have to know what kind of dog they are, they are insured and eat same as any other dog so there is nothing out of the ordinary.0 -
I'm sure you won't even be asked about your dogs but if you are be firm and direct with an answer. "they are a ___ and ____ cross that we got from a dog's home". That should put an end to any further questioning!

well i can understand that, when did you last see a horse curled up by the fireplace or on the end of your bed?0 -
ive a realtive who has 3 dogs, each cost £750, if they had a car worth £2200 the OR would be looking hard at it, like a vulture on the atkins diet0
