Hi all
Read a post the other day which said someones pets might be taken away. I am almost certain to be going BK and have two quite expensive dogs, is there any chance they could be taken from us?

I have the same question as have 2 labradors, cost £500 each. Only myself going BR at first, wife may or may not, depending on how things go.0

your local Korean take-away will be only too happy to take them in
for horses make that "French restaurant"0 -
It was probably me who you read about having my pets taken away. My spiders and snakes.
Just don't volunteer info! He said it would be the same case if it was an expensive breed of dog, but I don't know how much 'expensive' is! If they are willing to take my pets which are only worth a couple of hundred, then I just don't know. Don't mention them unless you are asked, and if you are, just say they are normal family dogs, not pedigree breeds etc.
Hope it works out for you. I'd hate for anyone to be going though what I am at the mo

I find it very unlikely that any OR would demand that you sell your pet. They're part of the family. No one is taking my dog away from me. They can have my mother if they like... (just kidding!)0

Obviously you don't have pets with such a stupid comment:mad:0 -
No OR is going to take away your dog , besides when they aren't pups anymore they aren't worth the kind of money you pay for them anyway.
I think you are worrying unnecessarily - very easy to do with bankruptcy I know. How would your OR know what kind of dog you have got anyway xxI cant change the past, but the future is mine to play with!

WRONG!
we have a big cat (but not a panther/cheetah, just a bone idle eating machine) and we lost our dog of 12 years in 2001 and that still hurts like hell, im 6' 4", 22 stone and cried like a baby
dont mistake flippant/humourous for stupid
the problem with this country is we treat animals like humans and humans like animals...0 -
31.6.47 Pedigree pets
A bankrupt's pets are unlikely to have a value, unless they are pedigree animals. Even so, a pedigree pet is unlikely to be saleable unless it has been used recently by the bankrupt for breeding purposes, is of an impeccable pedigree e.g a recent winner of Crufts, or is of a rare or currently fashionable breed. If possible a valuation should be obtained .If it is apparent that the bankrupt was engaged in business as a breeder, the animals should be sold as an asset of the business. If necessary, specialist agents should be used.
If the bankrupt claims an emotional attachment to the animals, it should be suggested that a member of the bankrupt's family or other third party purchase the animals. The costs of sale that would otherwise be incurred should be taken into account in assessing any such offer.
In the rare event that a company in liquidation owns pedigree animals, they should be sold, although the directors of the company may wish to purchase the animals
