What everybody probably doesn't realise is, if you haven't looked at the conditions of the free 0845/0870 calls with BT is...

    A) The free calls don't apply what using one of the indirect CPS providers, so if you call one of the 0845/0870 numbers to make calls to mobiles or international calls, your still going to get charged by BT.

    B) There is a fair usage policy in affect with the free 0845/0870 calls which is 150 calls or 1000 minutes per month.
If saved £2710 and only spent the interest (Based on a return of 5%), you would have enough money to pay your TV Licence every year. Saving you £7452.50 over a period of 55 years, based on you buying a license from the age of 20 until your 75 at a cost of £135.50.

If you read the thread and about the product your see its not an indirect access provider.;)

They provide you with a 0870 number that points direct to your target number.

Well its lucky that you have been able to so far, but it won't be long before the number would be added to the list of charged 0870.

There is also the chance that if you are reading the information about your calls from your unbilled usage that when it comes to your bill being produced that the number gets charged as so far they haven't actually billed you, although it is unlikely this would happen

How is it not an indirect access number, as you are calling calling 1 number to direct you to another number.

Depends how you look at it I suppose.

In my case, I'm dialling a specific 0870 number which is on divert to a specific Spanish number (i.e. I don't dial 11 digits, wait for the prompt and then dial the Spanish number as I'd have to do with a gateway/indirect access provider).
Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.

An indirect access number is a generic number, which lets you dial to more than 1 country after you're connected. A good example is https://www.call0870.co.uk. On the other hand my0870 gives you a unique number which piggy backs onto your chosen number. It works exactly like calling a company in UK using their 0870 number which is mapped onto their geo number.

Its not an indirect number because it connects you direct to your destination, just like ngn numbers used by businesses.

If your theory was correct no 0845/0870 number would be included in inclusive minutes.;)
  • my0870 is like NOODLE - not sure if many people knew about it. There was a UK company which provided UK mobile numbers unique to an international number - so you could just dial the given UK mobile number to call any international number, thus using your free mobile minutes. I was with Orange and for 6 months, I got free international calls - and suddenly in last december, i was charged £80. The Orange customer service is so rubbish and bunch of fools - so when I called them, they said the number that I used is a dial-thru number and blocked all 07822 numbers.
Now with my0870.com, I am currently making international calls - but one fine day, I may be charged a hefty amount when BT eventually finds it out.

    So be on alert !!!
