    Hey folks,

My parents are getting oil heating installed and were wondering how much it's going to cost them to run.

Anyone care to share their experiences on how long a fill of 500 and/or 900 litres lasts? How often do you have the heat on, number of baths/showers etc?

    Many thanks in advance. :)

All depends on the size of the house, how well insulated and how they like to have the house heated.

In my house 900 ltrs wouldnt see 6 weeks in the winter if I wanted to sit without jumpers or fleeces on

Forget showers and baths, it's space heating that burns most of the money. The installers SHOULD have done a bunch of heatloss calcs based on the size of the house and it's insulation status.

Ask them what the energy budget is. Divide by the calorific value for oil (somone quoted it in some post in the forums) and you will have a ball park figure for litres per annum.

That will be a lot more use than me telling you we use about 3000litres a year.
  • £353 for 900l from bangor fuels (used the cheapest oil website for comparisons but have ordered from this company before and no complaints (no affiliations- just wanted to pay as little as poss for oil:) )
  • Had to bite the bullet today. Ordered 900ltrs from Bangor fuels £348 and no cc charge was the best I could find.

  • I've seen a few folk mention www.cheapestoil.co.uk as a great comparison site. I thought I should try it.

I'm pricing an order for my syndicate today (27,000 litres - 33 addresses). I looked in on cheapest oil. Even the headline (best) quote is well out of line. At 39.7/litre they are already 2p/litre over BoilerJuice. I consider BoilerJuice expensive and I'm expecting to pay about 34p/litre when I'm done.

Mesage? If you are not in a syndicate join one or start one.
  • £344 for 900 litres is about the cheapest at the moment, as far as I can see.

I paid £344 for 900 litres last week from Bangor Fuels, no credit card fee which helped but still scary money.
