  • Hi,
Nicholl Oils own Deighan Fuels with the latter being about £5 cheaper on a delivery.

The price of crude oil is dropping rapidly, under $90 this morning (down over 5% in a week)

How long does it take for this decrease to be reflected in the price of heating oil here in NI?

There's also the small matter of the exchange rate. When oil peaked in July, sterling was at $2, it's now $1.75.
I reckon heating oil prices are down by 19% from July which is reasonable when you consider that the crude price fall of 36% has been offset by a 12.5% depreciation in sterling. In sterling terms the spot crude price is down by 21%. So you're only being "extorted" by about 2%, around £10 per 900 litres.
Does that make you feel a bit better?

I think i'll give it a few more weeks before I buy. Hopefully the US government bailing out the banks will bring the price down further as everything settles.

I rang Cawoods this morning (who I have an account with) and they quoted £275 for 500l. I told them I could get it for £252 from Boilerjuice, and could this match this- was put on hold, he came back and said they could match this, but only on same t&c as B/Juice ie pay upfront or pay the driver. Alternatively, I could pay £260 and pay by direct debit. (I already pay them £40 p/m by dd and have done for a few years now.) So effectively they are charging me £8 extra for being a loyal customer!!! I only owed them £3.46 so I paid that off and cancelled the account. What's the point of having an account when they are going to charge you what they like? From now on will just put the money aside myself every month and get from boilerjuice or !!!!!!!!!. I got the impression that he couldnt have cared less that I closed my account and went elsewhere.

Oil price down today to around $90 a barrel. Savings should filter through shortly. I suspect this is close to the realistic price for oil now but no idea how long before silly season starts again.
    Timmay!
  • holding....holding....holding until payday at the end of the month, bet it goes up then!
  • £444 for 900l from Bangor Fuels today (according to www.cheapestoil.co.uk) - it's finally dipped back below 50p per litre:T

Long may the downward trend continue!
