Unions protest because contractors are using foreign workers at power station.

I posted a couple of times on this topic in another thread but I shall join in here to.
We are in the EU...... have been for a long time so those who think we shouldn't be are just going to have to get used to it I'm afraid. As Europeans we can live and work wherever we like within the Union. So can the Italians. An Italian company won the contract fair and square......... or didn't they?
One of the refineries who have protests 'in sympathy' is in the south of the county I live in. They are prone to walkouts.
see here , here , here but strikers really need to take care because look .
If I was looking for skilled workers towork on a refinery I would discount those guys I think.
I have a couple of questions whichsome of you may know the answer to. I am asking them because I don't know the answers... not to cause a bit of a stir.
Does anybody know if the Italian company use an agency to recruit the 'en masse' of workers?
If so, was it an Italian recruitment agency?
Whilst recruiting, did they specify 'no Brits need apply'?
Do British companies advertise positions in Italy?
Oh goody, as we are in the EU and "europeans" can we contribute the same as Spain,France,Italy or Poland to the EU, which is err, errm NOTHING....
I would also like the road network that France and Germany has, oh and I would also like to pay the same income tax as the Spanish do..after all we are "europeans".If we all paid the same in as the rest of Europe and got out the same I would be more willing to "play their game", but all the time we get "shafted" I think I will stay as I am thankyou..... Oh and one last thing "The UK as a nation"didn't sign treatys ,our so called government did, whom I might add rarely get 38% of the vote, which I hope you would agree is Not democratic?0 -

We still have the pound, drive on the left(lets face it our cars are designed too :rotfl: )we still have some treaty opt outs left....
So we can reduce our contribution of some £8 billion or so to Zero?0 -

Well of course raising safty concerns are a good thing. Nobody should be expected to work in unsafe conditions. My point was they walk out on strike frequently. The link you highlighted was the article explaining that all the safety procedures were in place, the guys were sent letters explaining so and told to return to work or get the push.
Those that didn't turn up I suspect were indeed pushed.
It's not easy to sack people these days - ironically thanks to the EU laws - there is no way they could have sacked them because they refused to risk their lives.
I have linked where this particular site have walked out 3 times already. Their support and sympathy and yet another walkout were sadly inevitable when this current dispute was raised.

I never said we "opted out" did I?
ooops - sorry what you said was
I think I will stay as I am thankyou.....
I took that to mean you were doing something to alienate yourself from the same legislation as the rest of us.
What did you mean?

Can you just clarify who goes on strike "frequently"???0 -

I meant not joining the euro.If you had a referendum (which apparently we aren't educated enough to "understand" on full integration it would be a firm "NO" vote.I would stick my neck out and say 85% of people don't want to join the Euro or more integration.
With my work I meet many people of all classes careers and I can honestly say with my hand on my heart the number of people who want more powers given to the EU you could count on one hand.0 -

this particular site. I was just thinking that had the main contractors done their research they would have known this. The current walkout is only going to make the British workforce less popular with foreign employers.
I can understand those who didn't get the jobs protesting.... but for those with jobs to walk out is senseless - only my opinion of course.

Oh Ok, No I wsn't referring to the Euro currency. I was saying that we are in the EU. There are a lot of things good about the EU too. Not all granted. Unfortunately, as in everything else, we tend to hear about the frustrations and costs rather than any of the benefits.
Of course the EU may not have benefitted you in any way at all, or indeed any of the people you come across in your work place, or at least not that you or they may realise.0
