I apologise if this has been covered elsewhere: on the Tesco R&R thingy, how does their price system work ? Are all Tesco's linked to a central database and they ALL scan the same price, or is each store different ?
All stores are fed from a central pricing db BUT can change prices locally. Also pricing errors reported one day, may be corrected a few hours later. There are no guarantees. The only fool proof method is to use an instore scanner to check the price, or buy it (and return it if the price isn't favourable).
Personally unless it's a product I want, and I'm willing to pay the SEL, I don't buy it!

Can you check the prices online and that's the same as you'll be charged in store ?
Online prices are an indication of what you may be charged in store BUT offers appear to change earlier online than in store (i.e. offer ends Weds in store, but will be removed from website on Tues). There are also times where the online price is different to the store price for no obvious rhyme or reason, so suspect online is fed from a central db, BUT like stores can have it's own prices. Electronics, CDs etc. don't appear online in the grocery section so can't be reliably check.

I just don't fancy buying a load of stuff trying to get some R&R action only to have got it drastically wrong.
If you are not willing/can't afford to take the risk then IMHO R+R isn't for you. Instore price checkers help though (just make sure CS arent watching) ;)
I would recommend finding your instore price checker (there's a thread on shop but don't drop), and starting slowly with a cheap item that's been recently reported. Find out how much hassle you get from CS etc. Then progress as your confidence builds.

Pre-packed meat with /kg pricing is easy to spot (when you get in to the swing) and doesn't require a price checker as you'll get charged is printed on the packet (this only applies to meat that is packed in different weights not gammon joints / bacon etc.)

When we got an R&R on a TV, the manager kept the receipt, told us the warranty was not applicable. He walked with us to the door incase security stopped us and we no longer had the receipt to show him.

That sounds alittle questionable (what he did not what you said :) ). Might be worth a call to head office customer service. For example he can't keep your receipt if you had any other products on there. In my opinion you shouldnt be penalised in any way like the warrenty over someone who has purchased the item normally just because you got R & R. Sounds like the manager is just sulking. However thats my opinion not something I know for certain. Like I said its probably worth a call to head office customer service if you feel like it.

Edit: oops just saw what Addy wrote further up. Sounds like you just had a vindictive manager.

I bought an Xbox game from 1 store a couple of weeks ago and got R&R against the poster saying Top 15 games under £29.97. No quibble whatsover. Went again yesterday and was surprised to see the same games with a higher SEL (32.97) and the poster still present. Decided to buy another game and this time was refused R&R as although he agreed the poster was misleading he stated the "Top 15" bit wasn't before the "under £29.97". I argued that the situation hadn't changed from 2 weeks ago and I was surprised that having brought it to their attention they still had the poster up but basically he wouldn't budge with his decision. Got a full refund at CS but was peeved that the very same store offered it previously and now they're not. I guess it's luck of the draw who you speak to - even the CS person agreed the poster was incorrect.

Do you think user the instore scanner alerts 'them upstairs' to you trying to find a misprice or am I being paranoid pete? I always feel a bit dodgy as I approach the scanner and try DVDs/CDs etc!

No, every store can have different pricing - its called supply and demand
and YES, the retailer is obliged to provide 12 months warranty from the date of purchase for NEW electrical items within the uk,
tesco may not handle the warranty directly and pass you to the manufacturer, BUT, the item will still be in warranty regardless of R+R or not

Think about registering it on the Dyson website or give their excellent c/s a call. They asked me where and when mine was bought, but asked no further details. All they require is the number off the bottom of the hoover for their records.

    AFAIK there's no sinister alerts.

However you would have a hard point arguing (from moral grounds) about a misprice that CS has watched you check on the scanner 2 mins earlier! Also someone who grabs large handfuls of CDs / DVDs, walks off with them, then returns a couple of minutes later is going to attract the interest of the local friendly security guard. Not because they know you are R+Ring, but because you are acting different from a normal shopper, so could be a shop lifter etc.

I agree, I only ever check 2-3 items max - but still feel I look suspicious because of it. I just don't want the hassle of not checking, then if the item is correctly priced I have to trapse to CS saying I've changed my mind.

Hah, i always do this, pick up an xbox go and check it at the scanner go back, check my 2 A4 page price list pick up a game walk to the scanner (on the other side of the store)

I must be seen to be acting so strange but i cant help it, I need to be certain it is mispriced every time i go T’s to pick something up i know to be mis priced I feel like everyone is watching me, I notice people looking at me far more that usual, im thinking oh god I look so guilty (broken into a sweat once)

i only ever check to or three things a trip so i always make sure they are the good ones!

Guess I just need to practise more.
