Fly Killer

I've got a fly killer that looks like a tennis bat, but it has an electric current running through it. Very, very effective but have to keep it well away from son aged three who's planning on becoming a Wimbledon champion by practising with it!
It was worth buying for the instructions which I presume have been translated from Chinese, and which simply say "approach fly, press (electrocuting) button and bat to death"!0 -

We had a currant pie served at school dinners and we all called it fly pie
HOY SQUEAKY! Yes me? Get back on topic, harumph!
I always used to swat flies but once I'd redecorated (where I could while waiting for the damp to be sorted) I didn't want squashed fly bits all over my nice new paintwork and so started using the vacuum.
There's a technigue to it. Wait for the fly to settle (you're likely to hit something if you start waving about trying to catch it in mid air - and anyway waiting works) and then with the hose out in front of you, you can move forward at a moderate speed until the hose is about a foot from the fly. Then move the hose directly towards the fly. SLOWLY. I'm convinced that with the air moving in towards the hose the flies can't actually tell that the hose is moving towards them...
..with minimal practice you can have a success rate of nine out of ten goes and no splatt marks anywhereHi, I'm a Board Guide on the Old Style and the Consumer Rights boards which means I'm a volunteer to help the boards run smoothly and can move and merge posts there. I used to live in a house where if you left the living room window open at night, you'd have 30+ daddy long legs sitting on the ceiling next morning. My only option was to vacuum them - hate flittery fluttery night time things with a passion!0

Below are some of the more popular home-made fly repellents.
1.White wine vinegar, water and any combination of citronella, eucalyptus, lavender, sandalwood or tea tree oils
Mix a few drops of each essential oil into a little washing-up liquid and add to the vinegar and water. Put the resultant mixture into a spray bottle and shake well before using. Variations include the addition of strong, cold tea instead of water, crushed garlic (although this can clogs the 'spray' mechanism of the bottle), meths, and Dettol.
2.Take a large lemon with a thick rind and slice thinly. Place in a bowl with a few sprigs of rosemary and cover both in boiling water. Allow to steep overnight and strain the mixture the following morning. Pour the mixture into a spray bottle and shake before applying. A similar response seems to be had by doing the same with leaves, stems and flowers from Elder bushes.
3.Mix one part crushed garlic to five parts water. Shake the mixture and leave overnight. Strain and pour liquid into a spray bottle.
4.Chrysanthemums also have a chemical in them that they use in fly killers, cant remember what its called!Pretty and natural fly killer, only problem I had was the b***dy slugs ate the chrysanths, only stalks left!lol, and no it didn't kill the slugs.
By the by the fly repellants are ok if you can stomach the smell of vinegar or garlic over your house.0 -
Lakeland sells a fly screen that you cut to fit your window so the little beggars can't get in in the first place.0
