Any old style alternatives to fly paper / vapona because the warm moist air here at the moment seems to be driving flies indoors and it's driving me mad! I have a fly swatter already but am not very good with it.

MAKE YOUR OWN FLY PAPER
Ingredients:
2oz syrup
1 tablespoon brown sugar
1 tablespoon granulated sugar
Mix ingredients together in a small bowl. Pour over strips of brown paper and let soak overnight. To hang, poke a hole in one end of a strip and tie a string to it.0 -
Are there any suggestions other than fly paper as I really don't want to have them in the house at all, I would rather be able to discourage them.0

no way to do that really cos they come from outside mostly
unless we get radar and ack ack guns
;D ;D0 -
i smear honey on double sided sticky tape on the window. usually ends up full of them in about 10 mins.0

cant think of the top of my head, but there are herbs that flies dont like that you could have in pots by the door or windows to stop them coming in in the first place.........if thats any help. or those (rather ugly) things you hang over the door, like long ribbons.0

I've tried the Basil trick ('cos I love the smell) but the flies down here seem to fly so fast that they seem to miss it. I like the idea of honey on double sided tape tho so I'll try that tomeoorow. We';ve got loads of wasps too at the moment and mosquitoes - must be all the rain and humid weather. When's summer going to start? :-/0

mmmm, love the idea of honey etc for catching flies but could end up a tad messy :-/
Also, hanging honey round and about when you have a wasps nest about 15ft from the house is a definate no no
Keep the ideas comming peeps, please as i hate fly spray. Instant headache for me but we live on a farm and the flies we get in the house can be of the biting variety >:(
Myself, I take elastic bands (free from the postman) keep a few loose round my wrist and if the blighters pitch anywhere within firing range, they get it elastic band stylee.
It works and gives the kids something to do in the holidays ;D0
