Have been with Talk Talk phone package for almost a year now, and have had absolutely no problems with them at all. My only complaint is that I cannot get their free broadband package as our exchange is not set up yet: will probably try Tiscali for both if that is not resolved by the end of the years contract.

My broadband has always been with Tiscali - I'm pretty sure they do the "cut-offs" from time to time and it is pretty annoying - but other than that I have found them excellent.

I was with Tiscali before TalkTalk. No problems with them at all - until I decided to leave. Were they difficult?! They ignored emails. No free phone number to call them - just a very expensive one - and I had to call them plenty. I'd never go back to them.

talktalk seems to be very hit & miss. I personally have had no problems with them and been with them for over 2 years now...BUT having had the pleasure of calling their customer services once or twice I can understand why people advice not touching them with a barge pole, it's diabolical and not just because of the language issues and long waiting time.

That said....I did get the problem sorted out in a couple of days. ( I may be one of the lucky ones)

As others have said TT do throttle at peak times so be aware of this if this is something important to you. (they seriously throttle)

It may be worth paying a bit more to get peace of mind....I stick with it cause it costs me less than 30 quid a month for BB, Phone inc calls, rental & international calls.

I have been with TT for about three years and although I had problems at first they sorted it out and I have not had any trouble since. 8 members of my family are now with them, my son had a problem in November and they not only sorted it they gave him a refund and every few day's they ring him to make sure it is still OK.

I pay just under £20 and can use my phone free 24/7 what more do you want for less than a fiver a week. I don't smoke but I believe that's about the price of a pk of fags.

    And the BB is FREE.

i cancelled talk talk recently their customer service is next to useless, you always seem to have the wrong department and they can't transfer you, so you have to phone again, quite often when you do get the right department they cut you off, presumably because they can't answer your question or it's time for their break

anyway if you want to cancel do it before you go live or you will forfeit the £29.99 connection fee, once you're connected you have a 30 day trial in which you can cancel without a charge but you'll pay the £29.99 connection fee, after the 30 day trial you will be charged a £70 cancellation fee aswell the £29.99 connection fee

tiscali isn't that much more than talk talk apart from no evenings calls but the broadband is a better deal, no cap, speed and reliability so it depends on what you vale more phone or web

    all the best
  • you most likely have upto the date of activation to cancel steer clear from talk ive heard they are crap

There are plenty of contradictory stories from customers (and ex customers) not just here at MSE, but across the net.

eg. This is the Money Supermarket review of TalkTalk and its CS:

I agree but from what I read talk talk is no marmite.

Far more people hate it then love it.

Ive never had it personally but I have had the unfortunate pleasure of using it on a friends.

I have had there sales people banging on the door quite a while back now try to get me to sign up which was quite funny as they obviously didn't have a clue what they was going on about and was from what I could work out anyway telling people what they wanted to here so they try and get them to sign up.

Every month without fail I get a mail shot from Virgin Media telling me about the great services they provide just outside my door through their cables.
Broadband, telephone and hundreds of tv channels all for £30 a month.

All great news, only trouble is there are no cables in our area.
You might think that Virgin would know where their cables are.
    Apparently not.
