Well- I really need to vent!
When I got home today there was a letter from Halifax saying they were changing the current account I have so that there are no 'overdraft fees' such as returned payments etc but they will now charge daily for using an overdraft- even if it's arranged! For an overdraft up to £2500 (mine is £250) it will cost £1 a day! I am really angry and well... flabbergasted! It's outrageous!! This month my account was in overdraft 21 days (naughty, I know, I'm not happy about it) It cost me 62p but i did earn 3p interest so total 'cost' 59p. Under their new rules it would cost me £21!!!
Needless to say I have totally reconsidered closing my Barclays account. It will be Halifax which is closed and their £250 available credit removed from my file instead of Barclays £200.
Maybe all banks will head in this direction eventually and the only way to avoid these daily charges will be to have one of those paid for accounts (Halifax have one £12.50 p/m with £300 daily fee free) but I'm damn sure I'm not going to pay to have a bank account until I have to!!! It's not unreasonable to want the option to use my overdraft with out paying through the nose for it. With those kind of charges I think that people who dip into their overdraft may find it harder to get out when their fees are so high even on their arranged overdraft!0 -
Hi Laura, just popped in from the Blondie thread and saw your post about double glazing - make sure you really haggle with them. DH did, much more than I would have been prepared to by just being really offhand with them, and being really stubborn, - he got them to do our whole house for £2000 in the end - they had started off at about £5000.... of course, they claimed they wouldn't make any profit on it, but somehow I don't believe it as they did it at that price anyway.

We had a guy come round last year and he started at £12k :rotfl::rotfl: AS IF Eventually came down to £3.5k. My dad says when they come round next to tell them the quote last year was £3k and see where they go from there- and only lower is acceptable! :rotfl: We'd be happy wit £3k tbh as we want front door, 6 windows and patio doors.0 -
V interesting to get a different slant on you, Lozza. So impressed with your progress doll, I really am. Oh and I agree - Halifax can do one for such GAUL!

Yes, that's exactly what I meant, I just couldn't think of the word 'hump'.
For crying out loud woman!!!! I mean this diary is more YOU, more direct and undiluted (for obvious reasons). It's nice to read your progress without the general squawking we all do over on the Blondie thread!Sealed Pot Challenge 2009 # 650 (target £150)Long Haul Supporters # 158 debt free 2014Member of the Blondettes :beer:Debt Free Date: doesn't bear thinking about!0 -
Hey Laura,
I've just been changed to the new account too, they do give you £5 a month tho! I don't generally use my overdraft but I guess it could get expensive if you do and are in it for any length of time. I'll need to check my account actually, I have a feeling I'll end up going into mines this month (for the first time in 2 years)!0 -

From december if you would be in your overdraft for say 10 days over the christmas/new year expensive period this will cost you £10 less your £5 monthly pay out= £5 compared to the pennies it would have cost you now. I just think it's really unfair. Especially as they are no longer paying out any interest if you are in credit, you will be missing out there too...
I'm off back to Barclays. Nice and simple. I'll withdraw the majority of my cash over the next couple of days, once this months direct debits have gone out I will cancel them and set 'em up at Barclays (I only have 1 DD, and one SO so no hardship) and then once I am certain work can change my account for next payday bye bye Halifax. :hello: (that's waving goodbye, not hello! :rotfl:)
Hmm, my lamb smells nice.0 -
Could you move to Alliance and Leicester for the £100 cashback?0
