You're following that plan well - and as you are seeing, that word 'consistency' is the key to everything. You will continue to build strength and speed as a result.:D

Whats leads to injuries and disillusionment is 'Yo-Yo' training and pushing too hard for what the body has been prepared.

As for my 'gentle distance run' it actually took quite some self control to keep it as such. For about a mile I ran with a group of about 20 guys who it turns out were all sub 3 hour marathon runners. I was sorely tempted to get involved in their session but common sense prevailed with it being only 48 hours since a 21 miler and 24 hours to a race.

I was intrigued though, bearing in mind that most clubs only have one or two runners at this level and I'd just bumped into a group of 20 of them by chance! It appears it was about to turn into the typical informal 'burn up', which is great fun but I took my leave and continued on my planned run.:p

  • I'm impressed with your self control Rich; I on the other hand was doing Fabulous Fartleks and was pushing quite hard in places. Might have managed to go a bit faster if I'd had 20 guys to chase after though :D

Hope you enjoyed your trek round the zoo Uk -so come on what colour is your shiny new vest??

Went for another run tonight, slightly better than Sunday, not so much walking. Almost stepped on a dead rat on the pavement as I ran past the allotments!!

    Morning you experts you!

I am slowly building up to being able to run 5km. Yesterday I ran just over 4km (in 31 mins) - I know very slow to many of you - but my aim is to get to 5km and then work on the pace a bit.

Have to say I am loving it! But sanity has prevailed and today will be a rest day.

rupe, i started running in october 08, and my first challange was to complete 5k to be able to run a 5k santa fun run.

On completing that, i then went to enter the local 10k road race, that was step 2.

I completed that, now ive entered the Great North Run 09, thats step 3.

Ive forecast that ill complete this ok as i can just about run 8miles, that ive entered the VLM 2010, to thats step 4.

Next step i think for you could be to invest in some nice running socks. There about £10 a pair, i have some which are blister free for 1000miles. There not alot to look at, but when you put them on to walk around in, you notice the difference.

    For example-

Well today is the first day of the inter services running season for me, its the 2nd event. I missed the last one. The distance is 5.5miles which is a pretty scary distance for me.

Some days ive been able to complete more than that distance in 1 session, some days its been walk-run-walk-run which isnt that good. The distance is timed and you get points for position.

Im dreading being last man as from the last race it appears i maybe within the last 3 people to finish.

With covering 7.8miles on sunday, and not covering any distance for the past 3 weeks, morale is low on this one. I'll be armed with water bottle belt, running watch, iPod on arm, energy bar in belt pocket, with hat and sunglasses optional but doubt ill need them today. Low 17 degrees apparently.

    Will report back about 6pm.
