I the 17 mins for 2.5 km ok for the first run??

At this point I really wouldnt worry about the time anyway - its more for a comparison with your times later on anyway, but 17 mins seems fine to me :D

What you should be looking at is you percieved effort level to get that time - was it easy or really tough? That'll tell you how your base level is, then you can work from there to get up to 4 miles (the magic level for improvements) :D

I do Wimbledon and its flat :D (although not for the next few weekends as I am away ;)) Richmond is hilly and very tough so it depends how much you want to stretch yourself...

One thing with Wimbledon - the standard is good - dont let it put you off but I often finish in the bottom half and I run 24:38 pb so just bear that in mind and try not to set off too fast or you'll pay for it on the 2nd lap :D

Hi there E.C. This works out at just about 11 minutes per mile, which is a pace at which many runners on here started. The key thing at the moment is to stick at it. Consistency brings really good progress, especially at first, so I'm sure you'll be speeding up in no time, if that is your aim. For now, as Becky says, don't worry about the time, just keep running, trying to extend the distance for now, before trying to speed up.

    Well done!

If its in your chest dont even think about it (it can cause lnog term lung damage!), but its nose only then take it very slowly and you should be okay - could you try a walk instead??

wimbledon it is then. i dont mind being one of the slower ones....gives me somewhere to aim for, i might just check to see how slow the slowest ones are. i would love to break 25mins as a starting target current p.b. is 25.30ish on my own.

off now for 10k around battersea/southbank

    good runnings to all....
