And now for my little feeling sorry for myself bit....

I did 1.04.21 yesterday and my friend who has never run a race before and although is quite fit and has run with me in the past (she is 51) ran the 10k in 1.07.something!!!

While I am chuffed for her a small part of me can't help but feel that someone who has done no training since last November can just up and run like that....It has taken me 12 months to get my time down to 1.04 and although I know I am only putting 50% effort but still......

Although she has got the body of a runner.....(very very skinny)!

Anyhow little feeling sorry for myself bit over ...

There will always be someone who has done less training who is faster than you and someone who has done more training who is slower than you.

But the fastest people in races are those that train consistently over years not months. It is very difficult for someone who has done little training to beat someone of a similar age who has trained consistently, no matter how much natural talent they may have.

Just travelled with the PM on the 6am out of King's Cross up to Leeds - I wondered why the carriages were getting the full sniffer dog treatment. The running link being that of course Gordon Brown has been running consistently in recent months and from just seeing him on Sky News he certainly looks in far better shape than the podgy bloke who first became PM.:p

Well I've got the docs at 4:30 so I'm going to get them to check for anemia as well with a blood test and we'll go from there I think :)

Wise words Rich, I feel 'slightly' better....I think. Time to up my game a little and try to be more consistent in my training....

When Gordon runs does he run on a treadmill do you think or does he run round London...would that not be a logistical nightmare...

Sammy I can feel your frustration but Rich put it very well. I can guarantee that if my older sis was to decide to run a 10k she would beat me even though she hasn't done any consistent training!
I'll make a wish, take a chance, make a change And breakaway. I'll take a risk, take a chance, make a change and breakaway ....

No idea, but I wouldn't think that he's running long distances so around the grounds of chequers or maybe around a closed running track (bearing in mind that they're nearly all completely ring fenced now) when he's out and about on travels could be the answer.

Yep I agree - one of my big problems is comparing myself to men (no offence guys) but here is some interesting stuff (these are the results of everyone who ran for my charity):
    Finish Time Overall Gender Age
    Male 03:52:49 8438 7052 1410
    Male 04:49:02 22917 17276 9704
    Male 04:43:31 21543 16378 9162
    Male 05:20:43 29101 21051 3668
    Male 04:27:41 17396 13607 7630
    Female 05:54:18 32548 9577 6068
    Me 04:31:06 18335 4085 2563

Now in time order I am 3rd but in gender I am first and age I am second - which goes to show that everyone is different even if there times are the same and you can always find a stat that pleases you somewhere :D

Sammy have you tried putting your time into fetch and getting a wava % - I find that always spurs me on, and remember over 10k - 3 minutes is A LOT!

whats a wava??? I do put my info into fetch......but no idea what a wava is...:rotfl:

Have to say its the first time I've compared myself to anyone..I have always been competing with myself...first goal - not to be last - achieved - second goal - get a base to start with - third goal - improve and now my fourth goal has been to get to 60min 10k.

off to fetch now to find out about wava's...

Okay - I now have a WAVA of 49.87 however, I still have no idea what it is...

Given that I have another 10k race on Sunday - does anyone know what my plan for training should be this week to be at an optimum on Sunday.
