OMG just found some photos from Sunday in the unidentified...think they should stay there personally when having realised my thighs look like something resembling those of a weight lifter * note to loose some weight before next race*

Yeah the headband does look a bit weird...although it looked fine at the beginning *note to self not to wear a headband and get rediculed by fellow runners*

sally - if you want to enter the "fat thighs" competition you will have to beat this one:

I thereby declare myself the winner!!

I agree that for the normal person to raise £1800 is crazy. I would never go for a charity place no matter how desperate I was to run LM. I am 100% certain I won'y get a place in 2010 :( but had to apply anyway

Well said, Sally...lets not encourage it to go any further.

What is often forgotten is the history of the event.

This was, and still is, our national championship. The fancy dress/ballot element was supposed to ADD to the event in terms of adding additional colour and atmosphere.

Instead it has become the event. We now have a situation where someone who has run a 3:01 marathon has LESS chance of getting into the race that incorporates our national championship than someone who doesnt really care about times but is keen to wear a cartoon character outfit!

We now have a national championship which has become a joke - alternative feeder races have dwindled by 95% compared to the mid 80s. So decent club runners rarely get into London and have very limited opportunities elsewhere.

As such the guy who was the first briton home on Sunday would only have been 18th placed briton in 1985. Its not his problem, he ran a great PB, but unless you have the depth of competition the top end will continue to deteriorate.

No doubt a lot of people dont care, but its usually the same people who, when it gets to the Olympics, wonder why we're rubbish at distance running as a country.
