Mine have been 2 through the ballot, one charity (boy that was hard work raising the necessary) and one in the Football Challenge. On top of that I reckon I've had maybe 10 rejections.

another candidate for big brother then

Morning All! Thanks for the birthday wishes :D

Am eating sweets for brekkie :D, havent made it out for a run yet - may go this evening, but may not depending on the amount of alcohol I drink ;)

On he charity place thing - I cant tell anyone not to do it because I did but I wont do it again - I'd rather do another marathon - but I'm hoping to qualify with a 1:30 half anyway :D, I agree about th entry fee - I think it should be £60 and £10 of that goes to charity, but I think no one should be allowed to raise money - if people want to do running thats fine, but fundraising and running should not be forced together!

    Happy running all!

I honestly don't mind whether people want to raise money or not.

It's important to remember that a lot of the people who get sponsored for it *don't* want to do running and that's kinda the point - it represents quite a lot of suffering for them in order to get round...people who get sponsored to do something they enjoy has always struck me as a little weird.

Anyway, happy birthday Becky, hope you have a good one!

And I'm just back from a 9.something - 1:25, so quite gentle, but not had a rest day in a while, so legs are starting to feel it a bit..

    afternoon all....
i was reading the debate with interest regarding charity places.
my feeling is that if there was the option rather than the compulsion to raise the money many wouldnt.
i feel that perhaps the costs should be distributed fairly amoungst all runners and that the orgaisers shouldnt be profiteering from the charity monies raised.
i do think there should be more places available to people who choose running as a sport. entry into half a dozen events through the preceeding year might help. At the moment its like most of the fa cup tickets are going to those that have never been to a football match.......oh hold on......i think that is happening...

i think if the figure required to be raised was lower (£500-£1000) and you could get a place by demonstrating a committment to the sport it would make it a lot fairer. It would not mean others counldnt be inexperienced....just that they would need to enter other events which would surely help their training

anyway thats my pennies worth. I am still nursing sprain to my ankle...i think it will have to be tomorrows commute run....oh well.

have a good run if you are going out.

I agree that for the normal person to raise £1800 is crazy. I would never go for a charity place no matter how desperate I was to run LM. I am 100% certain I won'y get a place in 2010 :( but had to apply anyway
I'll make a wish, take a chance, make a change And breakaway. I'll take a risk, take a chance, make a change and breakaway ....
