You've hit the nail on the head there - the first build up (or first after a lengthy lay off in my case) is mainly about creating a solid base to build on later.

On Sunday you will enjoy it regardless of the outcome within reason because, more than anything else, it will teach you sooo much about how your body reacts to the training that you have put into it.:D:D

Its not the end point of anything just one step in a long, wonderful journey of discovery.:D:D

I dont feel I could have done more - I'm not at where I wanted to be when I set out target wise, but when I think about the fitness and understanding I've gained I feel dizzy, I think it would be easy to be disappointed that I know I wont get the 3:30 I wanted, but really I dont feel that way at all...weird :D

Onwards and upwards (and faster ;))

Like I could/should have done more  but on the other hand confident and up for the challenge. Wonder how many others are feeling they could have done more...do you think Paula thinks this too before a race?

Have just added vaseline to the list..had forgotten that one!

    34,500?

And no, Paula would not go into a race thinking she could/should have done more. She may not have done as much as she would have liked through injury but that is a completely different thing.

Goodo, that can be a very painful omsission!:p:p

I guess when I look back at the miles I have done there are weeks when I obviously haven't done as much, but I know I did the BEST I could with the time I had, so like Becky although Im not where I would like to be really I know I couldn't really have done much more. Guess I am a perfectionist
I'll make a wish, take a chance, make a change And breakaway. I'll take a risk, take a chance, make a change and breakaway ....

I know what it feels like:

You're given a box with instructions on how to open it, the instructions are a bit faded and tough to read but week by week you decode them a little more and on Sunday the box will 'click' and open...

Only now inside is another box - but you're not mad in fact you're excited, there's another set of faded, worn instructions and you get to do it all again

Or like getting to end of a great book, only there's a whole series of them to read and the authors still penning some more :D

Have you been reading The Great Book Of Analogies?:p:p

Absolutely spot on though - thats exactly how it works. How can you be disappointed when you find out you're going to get lots more fun just like that you've just had (only better:D).

No remember this is what happens when I dont run a lot - my brain goes mad with creativeness - when I run I get it all out during the runs (I make up stories among other htings - shame I dont get any time to write them up!) :D

Hi all, just wanted to log on to say thanks for the running plan Becky! I've not really had time to study it fully, but it seems straight forward enough. I went to the gym tonight and first things first is to try to run for 25 mins without stopping! I walked for 1st minute, ran for 10, walked for 1, ran for 8, walked for 1 and then ran the last 5! I didn't see the distance - it didn't come up at the end, but I ran at 5.4 and 5.3mph, which I did find a wee bit easier)
My legs are aching now though, although standing in the kitchen whilst making a risotto is probably also to blame! lol!

Having tomorrow as a rest day and then try again on Wednesday
Good wine needs to breathe, if it stops breathing try mouth to mouth.

Well done Bagpuss - just keep trying and you'll crack it :D, it'll be soooo worth it for GR when you do as well - especially in the later stages when loads of people are walking and you're passing them all :D

    Week1(Abingdon)
    Mon20/4 10.0 Miles 1:12:58 (7:18/mile) (Pulse 108)
    Tues21/4 20 x 400m + 4 Miles WU/WD (Set1- Av 1:36,Fastest 1:30)(S2,1:29,1:26)(S3,1:26,1:22)(S4,1:24,1:20)
    Totals: 8000m(5 Miles) 29:37, Av 5:55/mile, Fastest 5:20/mile

This was the first of the bulk interval sessions. They are a great way to get the legs moving at faster paces and yet still get some good mileage in (overall session= 9 miles).

There was a little duck scattering going on at times but I reckon that if the sun has managed to come up then it must be time for ducks to wake up.:p:p
