I can only manage just over a third of a mile. It doesn't hurt when I run just afterwards. A days rest seems to do the trick. I suppose I'm just frustrated as the running is going a lot slower than I thought, considering I can walk for miles without any problem.

A very hot and sunny run, perfect for getting the hangover out of the system and for getting a bit more of a tan!:D:D

This was Becky's last long run before FLM next week and she is looking in pretty good shape despite still having the back end of a cold and a sore head!:p

I wonder how Chickadee and Simply have got on in their races?

Awww thats cute - I really struggled up the hills today but got round thats what matters - it was HOT out there today and now I am little pink :D

Got a nice coach journey home in a while though to sleep off whats left of my hangover ;)
  • Are you sitting comfortably; popcorn at the ready?? Please be seated for Simply's first ever race report :j:j

Ha, ha after my big intro I don't know what to say. The weather was perfect for a 10.30 start, it was a small, well marshalled race and the course was scenic.

I decided not to go gadgetless and carried my ipod in my hand (no headphones) so that I could check my pace now and again. The starters asked for the fast peeps to go to the front and except for a couple of youngsters no-one moved so they then asked for those able to run the whole route (no walking) to move nearer the front. I tagged onto one side of this group and set out nice and slowly. (I had visions of Rich sitting on my shoulder saying, slowly, slowly).

I kept my pace to between 09.30 and 10.00/mile for the first 2 miles, between 2 and 3 miles there was a nice steep hill and, thanks to Becky's hill runs in my training plan, I didn't need to alter my pace. It was a nice feeling overtaking the two ladies that I had been following as they slowed on their way up the hill.

I upped my pace from about 3.5 miles and couldn't believe that I managed to pass people as I made my way back towards the Leisure Centre and I was then onto the final stretch around the running track.

The result (according to my ipod) 5 miles, 00:48:12 (09:26/mile) - the official times should be posted within the next couple of days so it will be interesting to compare these.

No goodie bags but I got a nice shiny medal and the highlight of the race was running past a field of Llamas. :rotfl::rotfl:

Well done Simply!!!!!!! Great news and really good race tactics - it took me ages to learn those :D

You've really proved the value of following a varied but challenging training plan

(Rich says you wouldnt have run that fast had he really been on your shoulder ;))

Well it was not to warm at 6am this morning :D...

Nice 12.2m in 1hr 35m not to shabby, hope i can keep around that time for my 1st 1/2 next week.... my longest run to date and just leaves me the last mile which will be unknown but i felt i could have gone on much longer this morning ( apart from the last few miles which i really needed the loo ) lol

Took in the sights of London / Tower bridge and noticed all the "warning road will be closed for the Marathon" signs... not long for you lot now :)

    Congratulations, Simply.

It sounds like a nice evenly paced run off a sensible starting pace.....perfect plan well executed.:D:D

And that feeling of passing people is great isn't it when you're feeling a bit tired towards the end? In virtually every race the people gaining places at the end are those who slow down the least, not those that speed up!

That first medal will be treasured no doubt!:D

Thanks Becky, I had a great time and it was good to challenge myself by entering the race - it's hard trying to run slowly when people are heading off into the distance isn't it? I've learnt such a lot by following this thread :D

Rich - you're right if you had really been on my shoulder I wouldn't have got too far at all!!! :rotfl: ,

Uk - I've just seen that you've posted - well done, it sounds as though you enjoyed that run this morning. But .... 6.00am???
