Hmmmm...I don't know whether it will translate to outright speed, although it was there at the start of last week's 5K, but the muscles were still tired then so it couldn't be maintained.

We'll soon see anyway, its only 12 hours to the race.:D:D:D

    Week34
    Mon13/4 Rest Day
    Tues14/4 Rest Day

    Sat18/4 Parkrun Leeds Hyde Park 5K 19:37 (6:19/mile) (Posn 18th)

An encouraging race this morning - if I managed to time it correctly it exactly equals the PB for this race at 19:37, which just 13 days after the marathon shows that recovery has gone pretty well.:D:D

Should be in reasonable shape to go back up to big mileage on Monday to start a 22 week build up to Abingdon.

Becky did a 5K warm up but employed some caution due to a bit of a chesty cough and decided not to get involved in the race.

Hope tapering is going well for all involved in next week's gathering in London.

    Sally,

New York is notoriously difficult to get into because they reserve most of the places for runners who have run 9 qualifying races in and around New York.

There is a ballot but the chances of an overseas runner getting in through the ballot are very small.

The most reliable way to get in is through running a qualifying time according to the following table:

  • Hi everyone, I'm back. Did you miss me??:hello:

Nice to see lots of good running going on; my training progranne has gone a little askew this week because of family visits and commitments.

Tuesday 14th - 5.5 miles 00:54:34 (9.50/mile) - this was meant to be a 4 mile fartlek run trying out my new gadget. The bodylink was rubbish and lost its setting before I even got to the end of the road so I got very cross and decided to do my favourite route instead. (The gadget has now been returned!!)

Wednesday 15th - a new route (up North whilst visiting family) - 5 miles 00:50:55 (10.03/mile) - there were a couple of nice hilly bits in this one.

Thursday 16th - new route again but ran with OH (only his second time out) 3 miles 00:33:39 (10:52/mile)

Had a rest day yesterday (5 hours sitting in the car - yeuk) and today; am now looking forward to my 5 mile race tomorrow. :j:j

Sorry for the long post :D

Good work, Simply...and well done on getting the OH half out (I know how difficult that can be at times.:p).

Gadgets, eh? Stick to the old fashioned methods - less stressful!;):D

So nice progress anyway and the very best of luck for tomorrow - just bear in mind that the best race times are achieved off slow/medium effort starts and the worst race times are achieved off fast starts!

Becky says Hi and says that she knows you'll do really well tomorrow!:D

  • Thanks Rich - I'll be running 'gadgetless' tomorrow which is pretty much how I've run my two 5 milers this week so I'll just go at a pace that's comfortable for me. (I'm sure that I'll be chanting 'slowly, slowly at the start). :rotfl:

I can't actually believe that I've managed to get my OH outside - he was adamant that he wasn't moving from the treadie. It's good for me to run with him occasionally as it makes me go more slowly; I just need to keep him motivated now. Hmmmm, wonder how I'll manage that????

Please thank Becky for me and tell her I hope her cold is improving. :D

Went on a run this morning and went slightly further than before. When ever I run I get pain in the shin. I think its my shoes. I think they are too small as my toes touch the end of the shoe. I can't afford to replace them until next week. Should I continue running or wait until I can get new shoes.

    Hey Rachel,

The reason your shin is aching is probably because the muscle is developing more quickly than the shin compartment can cope with - if the pain is starting after 1-2 miles then its shin splints and probably not to do with the shoes.

Depending on what distances you are running you can slow down and after 3 miles it may ease off and you can continue because the sheath surrounding the muscle has become more elastic, if its too painful for even this then you need to revert to walking for a while in order to strength and stretch the shin compartment.

If its hurting all the time (i.e. when not running) then it could be something else.
