Morning All, gosh it was busy on here yesterday.
Hello to Seaxwyn and Mellika - I'm fairly new on here too and certainly not up to the distances of some of our posters. It's great motivation reading their achievements though especially as I've also been reading through the old thread and can see how they've progressed over time.
Now a question for our experts. The furthest I have run outside to date is 10k and I can usually manage 3 - 4 sessions per week.
If I were to start training now (with a decent plan if I asked Becky or Rich nicely???) how long would it take before I was ready to tackle a marathon??? Not that you guys have been putting ideas in my head or anything!!!2021 MFW No.18 £9900/£10,000Mortgage at 21.07.20 £178,999 Mortgage today £150,8910 -
Oooo Simply exciting
The least possible amount of time to train is 16 weeks but these are usually accelerated programs for 2nd or 3rd timers...so I would say you are looking at about 20-24 weeks, but interestingly marathons seem to work in two seasons spring and autumn so you would have plenty of time to train for a September-November marathon if you started now...
A plan would depend on what sort of time you wanted, how many days a week you want to train and when the marathon was - but yes it would be possible to do one later this year0 -
Thanks Becky, it was the talk about Abingdon that got me thinking.
I wouldn't be worried about time, just finishing would be good, and I can commit to training as many days as needed (work permitting). Do you think that Abingdon would be doable?
In fact I got so carried away just now that I forgot to post what I came on here for - which was to report yesterdays run.
After my plodding 5k on Wednesday I went out again early yesterday evening and ran 4.29 miles in 44 minutes 38 - not bad as this is the first time that I've run on two consecutive days. (I wouldn't normally but off I'm dining and dancing this evening so won't have time to fit a run in after work)2021 MFW No.18 £9900/£10,000Mortgage at 21.07.20 £178,999 Mortgage today £150,8910 -

Another great running morning - fresh, frosty and sunny. It doesn't get much better than this for appreciating the pleasures of running.:D
It also looks like last night's 68 pulse was no fluke after all!!
56 miles done, 26 miles to go...to total 82 this week.
Simply - The answer to your question is a definite YES! You can definitely get ready for Abingdon without a doubt, but it must be emphasised that the key to training for a marathon is being motivated enough to consistently train week in, week out to build up the necessary strength.
Approached in the right way it is a very pleasurable journey!:D
Happy running today, everyone...it's very nice out there!!!Gt NW 1/2 Marathon 21/2/2010 (Target=1:22:59) (6:20/mile) 1:22:47 (6:19):j:j

Yep Abingdon is soooo doable
No running for me - I've decided to have a rest day after all this week as I've got a slightly sore muscle on my shin, its healing up nicely but twitching slightly as the blood flows down there so I thought I'd give it a day before my 5k...
Nice running Rich0
