    WOW Pink thats amazing :D

Just shows the power of building a solid base before launching into a full running schedule! Glad to hear of the weightloss too - I lost a stone and a half when I started...it was amazing! Keep up the enthusiasm and you'll be running outside in no time :D
  • aw thanks becky! I'm really looking forward to running outside, well actually just running would be nice, but i'm not even gonna attempt it until after week four of walking, so maybe next weekend, i could jog to the corner shop or something lol.

What you're doing now will mean you'll be able to progress the running so quickly as well :D

Once you've built a solid base of fitness its much easier to run for 3-4 miles then 10k isnt that far off at all...ooo Im really excited for you :D
  • Well good news, I actually broke the 1 hour barrier and did my 10K on Sunday in 59:18. I'm so pleased but I do feel I could've done better.. Sounds like an excuse but I had the start of a cold on Saturday and now it's full blown. I'm a bit annoyed though because the race website has my time totally wrong (no ankle chips to record accurately) at 1 hr and 3 mins. My next race is on the 29th March so between then and now I would like to be able to do a comfortable sub 1 hr run. Any training tips for the next few weeks? I seem to really struggle when there's a few hills, should I concentrate on hill running?
Do what you want because in the end people will judge you anyway.

    Hi Rachael,

Well done on breaking the 1 hour :D:D

My 10k on 15th March isnt chip timed either - its pretty annoying isnt it!

Training tips wise I would do some hill work but not too much - maybe one session a week and one speed work session should help - I'm rubbish on hills too - so I always try to race on the flat ;)

Also run some longer runs if you can - this will help you build up endurance for hitting hills late on a race when you're legs are tired!

I'm sure Rich will have more advice...

Pinkneonmartini - please get your calf checked out....whilst it is quite probably nothing more than "getting used to exercise", there is a possibility it could be a clot. Better to be safe than sorry.

Rachael - well done on your sub 60 10k :T

Hi everyone, I passed on the intervals last night. As I mentioned, on Sunday's half marathon I felt really heavy-legged but not exactly 'ill' and last night I felt exhausted, so trying to do an interval session would have been counter-productive. Sure enough, today I have an upset stomach and feel quite groggy, so I probably have some sort of virus. I'm not ill enough to be off work, but definitely under the weather. If I feel a bit brighter later I may do an easy 4/5 miles but will listen to the body.

Good news - I am an auntie again! :j My brother's GF had a little girl last night at 9.35. She will be called Charlotte Joan (Joan is my mum's name) and she is healthy and noisy. Apparently she shouted out as soon as she was delivered....a sign of things to come probably. ;)

Well done to all the new runners on here too. You are all making really good progress and it is encouraging to see. Keep it up!
