Sorry took me ages to get back and shower and off out very shortly to meet a friend and shop/ talk trips to New York
Run was okay - bit tired from the 9 miler yesterday, but was on for 24 mins or thereabouts till got hit with a stitch on the second lap argh - so I'll be pleased with sub 25 today - which I reckon I was around...anyway I also found it tough to start today - sooo many people - lost about 5-10 seconds on the start as well - doh!
Happy running all!
Well done Rich - you're amazing as usual0 -
I failed........set out to do 16 miles but stopped after 9.......then walked the mile back to the car.
I don't know what went wrong, but I just didn't really get into it - whether I had talked myself into too much negativity this morning, or what, I don't know. I felt thirsty, so need to make sure I drink more beforehand, and I went too fast - 9 miles in 91 mins.....now, that is a nice time, but I need to be much slower in order to get these extra miles in. Even though I was quicker than usual, I felt soooo slow. The loops that normally fly by on a Wednesday seemed twice as long and at one stage I almost expected "Road to Nowhere" by talking heads to come on to my ipod - I felt like I was running on a treadmill.......go figure
I am gutted - I even cried with disappointment as I walked back.
But, I suppose on the plus side, I have three good runs in this week - 7.5 miles, 8.25 miles and 9 miles after 10 days off, so maybe next week will see the week that the long run comes together. Also, 4 months ago, I was desperate to do 10 min miles, and now I have done 9 of them in succession.....so I will take the positives, and move on.
But I can't tell you how !!!!!! off I am not to be writing about my fabulous 16 miler......
Rich and Becky......excellent running from you guys.Successful women can still have their feet on the ground. They just wear better shoes. (Maud Van de Venne)Life begins at the end of your comfort zone (Neale Donald Walsch)0 -
You're quite right Hypno - take the positives out of it and move on!
Some days the body just isn't in a mood to deliver - there's no point in fighting it, it knows what it is doing. It may still be absorbing the runs earlier in the week or just be in a dip of some natural cycle. It doesn't really matter what the cause, you've still run 9 miles at a good old pace and will get some more improvement from that.
It will be ready to run 16 miles shortly, or may even have been ready to today at a slower pace.
Feeling slow can happen at any pace - you can feel like you're treading water when you're leading a race, believe it or not, and wonder why everyone isn't flying past you. There's no real reason for it but I know exactly the feeling you mean.
Next time it will just be a case of setting off more slowly, and then slowing down some more just to make sure!:DGt NW 1/2 Marathon 21/2/2010 (Target=1:22:59) (6:20/mile) 1:22:47 (6:19):j:j

Hypno, so frustrating, well done on what you did, and I can understand the tears, my OH did the marathon last year and many a time she came back crying after 'failing'.
We all get crap runs, even the likes of Rich (though prob not as bad as some of us).
Chin up, you're doing great and it will come through. You've done 14, two more miles is nothing in the scheme of things.
And I'd possibly think about changing my loop, if this is one you're used to, might help to find somewhere else that is new.
Good luck.
Just as an update, I did 6 mile intervals today, best run in ages. Feel very good, remember Hypno how good some of your runs have been so far and will be in the future0 -
Hi, not sure i want to post my feeble effort after reading the previous posts, but the positive is that its only my second run and according to my highly technical calculations involving a map book and a piece of string, the distance was approx 3 miles which i did in just over 45 mins. It was slightly less than the usual saturday dog walk and there were lots of walkings in between but i feel rather chuffed with myself. For some strange reason it was easier on the way back!! Yay me :T:beer:0
-
Rusty - that's quite a demanding session you've managed there. Keep doing those and you will start to feel really strong!:D
Haley - I remember the string and mapbook method, then the car mileometer....but mapmyrun.com is much easier.:DWell done on your session, being easier on the way back will be due to the muscles being warmer, and therefore more elastic, so that makes sense. Just let the improvements happen rather than trying to force them and you will be amazed at the changes your body will undergo!:D

i had a look at mapmyrun but due to being a technophobe wasnt sure how to enter the details and todays run was through woods so not sure how to work it, did a warm up of 5 or so mins on my stepper so might go and do another 5 just to stretch down. out again tomorrow i think as its sunday and the dog needs it too!:beer:0
-
Its pretty easy to use once you get the hang of it. And mapping through woods is fine in it's default mode. Play about with it, it will save you loads of time!:D
Wow, the result of our race has just come through. The winning time was 15:55, which in itself is the 2nd fastest of all time. But, and this can't be underestimated, it was achieved by a 14 year old!
That gives an age rating of 99.16%, which if I understand it correctly, means he almost ran the world age record for 5K. But this is a hilly course!!!! Is this the fastest 14 year old in history? The data would suggest so!:eek:Gt NW 1/2 Marathon 21/2/2010 (Target=1:22:59) (6:20/mile) 1:22:47 (6:19):j:j
