Does sound like a bad setup they have there.

Least you have your PAC now, I'm sure when you give your PAC to a different network that gives the new network permission to take you on as a customer and to cancel the old contract. So if you give a company your PAC tomorrow and they accept it ok, then your old contract will end tomorrow.

Someone correct me if i'm wrong but i'm pretty sure thats how it works.

Thats the way i believe as soon as the other network takes your number then thats it ended with 3. Ive just finished with 3 and surprisingly it was easier than expected, most networks bill you a month in advance then you have to claim a cheque back off a month later but 3 cancelled my last invoice automatically and then sent me out a new one for revised bill which was up to the date it terminated, if that makes sence?

I think you pay in advance so you have already paid for this month line rental and if you cancel tomorrow you "should" be credtied back the charges from the 27th-31st Jan, as you've already paid for them. Also minutes + texts run from the beginning of the month to the end, so you would only lose from the 27th to the 31st but like I say you should get a credit back anyway.

If you don't find a new contract then your PAC will run out and you will continue to be with 3G and everything will stay the same as it is now.

Hopefully someone can clarify this for you, but I think this is how it all works.

What exactly is the best thing to do now and when? I wanted a new contract with another company to start on 24th or 25th feb as the other with 3g should end on 24th.

I wouldnt want to get cut off from 3g till at least the end of the 12 months because I'll lose the minutes and texts I've paid for so by giving my pac code to someone tomorrow would cut 3g off wouldnt it beforetime? and I'd waste almost a months worth

And what if I didnt find a new contract before 24th will 3g end anyway?

If you dont use the pac code then it reverts back to contract and you will have to give 30 days notice as the pac will expire on the 25th, what i normally do is look at what i want phone and mins wise and when ive found that and know the availability i take it from there if my original network wont offer me the deal then i give the 30 days notice and i have had a few overlapping contracts too.

I don't understand why they cant accept that I want the contract to end with them on 24th regardless of if I've used my pac or not, can't get that through to them though

I know I'd lose my number that way but I'll make sure I get a new contract anyway.. I just want to be sure its ending on 24th midnight. It was ok before as I didnt port my number and that was straightforward
    Thanx

It sounds to me like it will end on 24th as you wish, or possibly 26th (from today). I think -1- is wrong in saying that if you use the PAC tomorrow, you'd get line rental refunded, as you are still contracted for roughly a month; you'd pay and forego the minutes, which is what you are saying.

The PAC takes a few days to transfer - I've only done it once, and on payg for a friend. Because of this few days, you may have to overlap the 2 contracts, or I'm wondering if maybe the new one could be arranged to start later than the order date.

If the first, then you'd have a new deal with a different number for a few days, until the old number was transferred. Or maybe with a bit of help from the dealer on the new one, they could delay connection to the day of transfer, but I don't know if this is actually possible. Maybe worrying about a one week contract overlap isn't necessary, as the number should be valid continuously (well maybe off for an hour or so?)

Maybe others can add to this, as I feel I'm starting to guess

So, overall if I were you, I'd look to connect a new contract between 18th and 24th Feb, and give them the PAC number then, and check the final 3 bill when it comes

Yes I think it will be ok, I'll try the delay thing aswell see what they say but I might be getting a deal from online too so I'm not sure how easy that will be to make it work.

I dont think I'd get the money back either if I ended early this month because a 12 month contract is for 12 months not 11 and a bit so if I left its my problem.

I just didnt want to find it going onto the 26th say and me having to pay a whole months texts and minutes for 2 days coz that would be £50 and I don't want to waste that much

I'll just get looking for a new contract :)
    Thanx

Once you use your PAC code, it takes approximately 7 days to process - once it goes through, that is the contract ended as I understand it. Therefore if you use your PAC code on, say, 15th (allows a few days leway) to transfer the number to a new contract, then you will still have the use of your phone for the week and it will end on time (by 24th which you stated).

What you could have done here was to ask 3 to convert your number to PAYG at the end of the contract, ie on 24 February. Then you could have taken your time to get yourself another phone with another provider. When you had acquired the new phone you could then ask 3 for the PAC. As you would no longer be on contract to 3, it wouldn't matter whether you used the PAC or not within the 30 days.

Exactly what I was going to say! I did the same thing. 3 are completely, totally and utterly useless, infact they are worse than that.

They're no worse than the others really. They can all be a bit trying at times.
