Absolutely. I spent years being ripped off by organisations such as these banks before I found this place. Once your eyes are truly opened, you look back and shudder at all the money you've thrown away over the years because you put your trust in companies who you thought were acting in your best interests.....well that's what they'd lead you to believe! (when of course all they care about is there own).
I've saved simply thousands since I joined this place and I know many others have too. Long may it continue. :T"One day I realised that when you are lying in your grave, it's no good saying, "I was too shy, too frightened."

Okay, I'll just tell you then that my sister in law was sold a "platinum" account by Lloyds TSB. She has an absolutely shocking credit rating, was having her mortgage bounced every month and was being charged £30ish each time for it and when I told her to cancel the £12 per month charge, they refused to accept the cancellation on the phone and insisted that she wrote in (she tried to cancel on the phone but the sales person on the other end wouldn't let her get a word in.....the trouble is that she's not as confident as some of us and people like this run rings round her). They didn't care about her credit worthiness......just what they could make out of her.
My travel insurance was through moneysupermarket.com. I can dig out the details if you like but there are loads of differing packages on there and you can play with whatever excesses etc you like (I think our excess is £100 so it's a lot if you have one item lost, but it's fine for medical expenses or curtailemnt etc).
Our breakdown cover is with Green Flag. Cost £25 for breakdown but you can get £20 cashback through Quidco so it costs a fiver for the year.
I don't have mobile insurance as I only have PAYG and top up by £10 at a time so insurance would be pointless. Bet you can get it for a lot less than £10 per month though?
Also, when buying things abroad, I always use my 0% for purchases credit card as it offers better buyer protection for no extra cost and they don't charge a transaction fee.
It's up to you of ourse, but I'd certainly look into whether that £17 per month is better off in your pocket than theirs?
Thanks again Mrcow. My blackberry curve phone (with contract) is important for my business. £10 per month is the cheapest i could find to cover for lost/water damage/stolen etc with excess fee of £30 (same as Lloyds on their mobile insurance). So im not on PYG.
Please do give me details about the travel insurance you got from moneysupermarket.com so i can look up to it. Just give me a link thanks.
What credit card do you use for purchases aboard? Nationwide Classic/Gold or Post Office?
I am not surprised to hear about the way banks use their sales targets to get customers on a package accounts even without customer's permission. I do remember watching a programme about Barclays immoral practices of selling worthless products to customers who clearly are not interested. And refusing to refund money once customers realised what happened. I do have to say that practically all of financial companies will have a sales target of selling individual products to customers and staff knows they have to reach a certain target to get themselves commission money!! And that include Nationwide who i feel have become too big and disorganised in recent years. They used to be very good but not now sadly.0

Hi again. My insurance is with insurefor.com. It cost £39 for our family of 5 and it was purchased through moneysupermarket.com. If you go through to them, then the prices are higher as the prices through monmeysupermarket are better based on your criteria. There are lots of places though that you can shop around for. Sorry if this is going off topic."One day I realised that when you are lying in your grave, it's no good saying, "I was too shy, too frightened."

These people will insure a blackberry curve 8320 for £5.88 per month or you can save move if you buy in one go.
Or Talkcover are quoting £4.41 per month for the same phone.
Or insurance2go are quoting £4.49 (or £5.99 including loss) with an additional £6 cashback from Quidco."One day I realised that when you are lying in your grave, it's no good saying, "I was too shy, too frightened."

I would rather deal with reputable companies and pay a little bit more, rather than dish my bank details out willy nilly...
But I would say that because I am a Banker...
I love the fact that people seem to truly believe half the tripe that gets written on this website, does any remember the Icesave fiasco?Personal Banker at Barclays0

Please tell me what is disreputable about a fully underwritten insurance broker offering a simple product at a reasonable price?
Rather that than a large company who should and does know better blindly ripping people off left right and centre?
Or maybe being a banker distorts your value of money and you deem it there to be thrown away? Any company can go under.....however "reputable" it may appear."One day I realised that when you are lying in your grave, it's no good saying, "I was too shy, too frightened."

Indeed. I have just started on the forum - i now regard the forum as my new hobby!! I like to think it is all about consumer power campaign...there are so much stuff out there that would shock the consumers to the core! I can only say this is a tip of an iceberg; many companies i feel do treat customers with contempt and take them for granted, treating them like mugs!!0

Old fashioned I may be but I would rather have the confidence that if I were to ever have my mobile phone lost or stolen I could visit my local branch and resolve the problem easily there with someone face to face, that has a good grasp of the english language than speak to some outsourced telephony team that doesn;t have a clue what they are talking about!
I would rather have good value for my money, this means paying a little extra for a better level of service.
We all saw what happened when Martin of this very website recommended people invest in Icesave as they offered a great headline rate, only for people to be disappointed when they had no access to their funds and uncertain of their security.
I guess what I am trying to say really is cheapest isn't always best, and if something looks to good to be true then it probably is! Personal Banker at Barclays0 Personal Banker at Barclays0

If you are looking for value for money then don't go to your bank for phone insurance.
If you are looking for a company that doesn't redirect you to some faceless call centre or a nameless employee who has no authorisation to make any even remotely complex decision themselves - then do not go to your bank for an insurance product.
If you are looking for a company that will deal with your problems in an efficient and polite way with minimal effort - then certainly don't go to your bank for phone insurance.
You wouldn't go to your local butcher for a manicure, so why go to a bank for breakdown cover? They don't offer value for money and don't understand the products they are selling either. They will tell you that you are saving money because that's what it says on their selling check sheet. They have no idea of what value for money in such products actually constitutes.
I don't think you are old fashioned. Naive perhaps, but not old fashioned. My grandfather was old fashioned - he loved getting value for his money. Old style is the way forward and the more people that are waking up to this, the better."One day I realised that when you are lying in your grave, it's no good saying, "I was too shy, too frightened."
