They are a fantastic machine. I've bought one which i've upgraded to 1.5GB and installed XP on, my OH is perfectly happy with Linux (pre installed), and uses it for surfing (infront of the TV), takingout with her etc....

The only issues might be worth mentioning are 2(ish)hr batt life, touchpad with buttons at the side (takes some getting use to), and the major problems you're going to have - is being able to get hold of one of these .... If you find one, I would grab it .... it might not be around for long at this price ....

    Thanks Star1.

It would be used mostly indoors so the battery life won't be a problem.

I found one at our local store and I asked them if they can hold if for me until tomorrow.

I may well go tonight and collect it instead.

    ;)
  • sb44 - Blue is the only colour they are doing @ Asda and i think they look gorgeous! Like a kinda metallic navy blue hue. Lovely.

Yep, 3301 is 160GB, go for it... they are fantastic!

Mine picked up my router instantly and automatically as it has a built in wifi adapter.

    HTH hun :)

Well, I haven't told my husband yet but I have just found a local store that has some left.

I asked her to read the code on the side and it was 3301 so I assume this is the 160gb one.

They only have blue ones left, do the blue ones look ok folks or do they scratch easily?

Also, we have a router so we can go online using our ancient (300mhz) lappy using a dongle, do I assume I don't need anything extral to go online with this. We are with Tiscali broadband so will the notebook automatically find it when I switch it on?

I think all of ASDA's stock has been the blue ones (but someone please correct me if i'm wrong) - in my experience it isn't the blue bit that scratches, it's the black surround to the screen - something that I would assume is the same for all of the different colors.

The AA1 has a built-in Wireless B/G network card, so should 'just work' with your wireless router. (if your wireless network is secured, you'll obviously need to know your WEP/WPA key to authenticate)

    Thanks ScorpioKitten

That's it. I am going to go straight there after the school run and buy one.

I won £460 on the free bingo at TAB so I am going to make use of some of that.

I'll tell the other half when he gets home or rather show him.

    ;)

The very first time it boots, it first prompts you for your language before going to the desktop :D

Well, I just rang my other half and told him I was going to go and buy one later.

I think he is a bit concerned it will be too small.

Is the keyboard a decent size to type on?

To be honest I won't be using it for typing anyway so it won't bother me but he was just asking.

The keyboard is "ok" for typing on, it's never going to compete with a propper/full size - but is fine for typing notes, web addresses etc .... My fingers are slim and are ok and after a short while, no miss-pressed keys, but I personally would'nt want to write a novel on it.

IMHO - Have a quick look in (say) PC world or Currys and confirm what you think yourself ....

Yep, it's considered the 2nd best netbook keyboard.
It's about 1.5 inches shorter than a regular desktop keyboard (excluding numeric keypad); I think it's referred to as being a 95% size.
Importantly for touch typing the right shift key hasn't been shortend.
I have pretty big hands and have no trouble typing on it - though admittedly i'm not yet as good as I am on a regular keyboard (still adapting to the slight change in size, positions & pressure required)

I think I saw something similar in Tesco and thought it was ok.

Anyway for the price it will do for what I want it for, I will only be typing web addresses into it!

They are £199.30 at Amazon so it is a bargain at £150.
