What's the conclusion regarding using one of these with AOL?
Is there an issue or is it related to the router?
As per an earlier post, I eventually got mine to work on my AOL ISP by changing the network connections options on the Acer to PPPoE. From here I was able to enter my AOL username and password and connection then worked fine.butterfly )i(0 -

I think this is just some old stock they are dumping, as this model was release July 2008. Asda are part of Walmart so the purchasing power is large $9 billion USD last year. This looks like the last production run from the factory in China that was commissioned to built them as they are shipping the last models with 160gb drives as 120g drives were not made in quantity after Aug/Sept 2008.
If you get one in store the is a window on the cardboard box where you will see a sticker this has the BIOS version check this to ensure you get the 160gb (Check previous posts on this thread)
Netbooks have a very short release cycle. Asus released 16 models of the EEE-PC in the first 18 months. This is the fastest growing sector of the PC market.
PC sales are slow, and Netbooks are the only growth area. It is very competitive. The high price high margin are always for the new models: Currently the 10" Intel Atom units are selling for close to Laptop prices.
This is one of the previous 8.9" units. Still a very good buy at this price.
I got one of the Asus EEE-PC with 20Gig SSD and Linux for £92 + Vat from Ebuyer it was the old 900 model as the 901 was current. The EEE-PC 900 has a defect that drained the battery when the unit was off! 10% per day. I wanted a small Laptop for the kids to do their homework so they use it with no battery running off the DC PSU.
If you buy last season's kits on offer the deals look good. Linux offerings are usually the cheapest model. Linux based units tend to be cheaper / or have better hardware than Windows units as the OEM Windows licence costs £55 to £70 pounds for the laptop vendor.
The new model is £299 retail in VAT due Feb 2009

For people planning to change to Windows, a fast source for the drivers (compared to the terrible EU Acer site) can be found at:- http://www.aspireoneuser.com/downloads/
