  • With the right advice plus in the the couples case motivation they could have avoided the situation.

Only have sympathy for the woman who was left as she didn't have the time or resources to sort herself out.

I thought it was a very sad look at the UK todayThe pensioner should be entitled to live in his 1 bed flat it was hardly a palace the man was obviously very ill and it was an absolute disgrace that he was living as he was he had worked all his life and it had come to this where he had to turn his oxygen off due to the cost. I think the comment about the plates was because they were worthless but the social worker didnt want to say that to a sick man.
The family well they were another kettle of fish dad took no responsibility for their problems at all and wikept saying he would get a job on the bins but never seemed to go there to get a job.
I felt sorry for the mum who seemed to be dealing with it all I know the child had been unwell but dad should have been back to work and taking the strain off mum instead of moaning how easy it had all been and it was the credit card companys fault.
The single mum was a victim of circumstance and did what she could but it was not enough a real shame for someone trying to make a better life for her family.
Unfortunatly as some of us know the card and loan companys are happy to throw money at people but at some point you need to stand up and say thank you but no thanks and take responsibility for your own actions

I found it quite shocking that they showed documents that gave the names and addresses of the people taking part. I would not be happy if that were me, especially if one of the anti BR brigade saw that info

I presume the sick guy had opted for direct payments to himself rather than having carers paid by Social Services come in.

Some of you on here are a bit unsympathetic to the families. You all have access to the knowledge and support that MSE brings. I didn't see a computer in any of the homes. Were the young family claiming all the benefits they were entitled to? They were not financially savvy people, it was desperately sad.

Where would any of you have started sorting out your debt issues without the internet to help? How do you find out about the debt charities? I know all these things but solely because of MSE.

I wasnt being harsh to the family at all I felt the wife needed some support and he kept saying i will go to work on the bins several times but never did:confused: as for internet access it is free at your local library as well as CAB and quite a few other debt charitys being free I do feel very sorry for them but the show portrayed him as a whinger who talked the talked and blamed others I like many others have taken advantage of the credit companys generosity but am now paying the price and like many others am doing my best and working at doing everything as a working family to pay my debts back It was my choice all the way along to take the money and I need to make it my choice to pay it back if I possibly can .
I do not think Bankruptcy is an easy option at all and feel very sorry for all those who have no other choice but to use this path

Thats why i said the programme was not long enough.I am also not sure what the real aim of the programme was. As you say KK it did not offer any resources for people to get help. It did not really show the true picture of bc.It showed the man getting a tax bill after bc but never explained that it could still be included in the bc.

I hate to say it but in MHO the whole programme seemed to lead us into the "this is what happens if you go bc" mode.Showing a couple of downsides but not taking the time to explain the in's and out's of them.

Perhaps with the amount of bc happening in this country the IS funded the programme to put people off;)

  • Letters should have stopped and they would have eventually
The queues at the CAB where always LONG but no mention of phone or online help
Forms where long and stressful but no mention of online forms
Debt before BR should and could have been included but no mention when poor pensioner gets a £5k tax bill

It was a biased portrayal of what is an already hard and distressing process.

Thank goodness for MSE and I feel bad and sorry for the poor people who don't know the truth that have just been scared sh**less

Sorry for rambling but I feel upset now.

I completely agree. It was such a bleak, inconclusive waste of sleepy time for me
Money, money, money. Must be funny, in a rich man's world.
