Maybe by the time you've been through the ravaging hell of depression and serious debt the last thing you care about is your appearance? Just playing devil's advocate.Come ride with me, through the veins of history...
I'll show you how God falls asleep on the job.

I wore smart trousers and top. Because thats what I felt comfortable in, in that environment.
The event is bad enough as it is, without worrying about what to wear. Stick to something comfortable but clean. And remember deodorant.0 -
To be fair, this was a documentary and not a parachute-an-expert-in show.
And to allow that to continue, asuming the programme producers/makers where aware the advice was wrong/bad/inadiquet, just to make another tv programme should in itself be condemned.
Im sorry but saying it was not meant to be a parachute-an-expert-in 'show' makes it worse, if what they witnessed was wrong and caused those appearing in it more pain, the 'show' should have been stopped, and the people in it's welfare put first.
Im sorry, thats not 'entertainment'

Yet you, too, have problems with your debts.

To be honest, and yes I DID watch the programme, I feel that they could have had a wider spectrum of cases - including, possibly, small businessmen/women, who make up a very large percentage of bankruptcies.
That said - I am really pleased that the BBC chose to devote so much time to the subject of bankruptcy as the media approach towards bankruptcy is usually only to report on the sensationalist aspect of bankruptcy - rarely going into the reasons or underlying causes behind the bankruptcy.
I was a bit disappointed in what appeared to be the level of 'advice' given to the participants, but we don't know if they were given 'bad advice' or simply if they had not properly followed the advice given.
The programme did show the potential 'risks' of giving 'family debts' preferred status over other creditors, although I do believe that the situation shown was a 'non-starter' as far as repaying the OR. Perhaps it was meant to be a timely reminder that the OR does, indeed, have the powers to 'reverse' any such payments - just a bit unfortunate that they chose to unleash their power on a pensioner who had no possible means of paying them anything.
The frequent close-ups of the Royal Courts of Justice certainly brought it all back for me.
All in all a pretty good programme which, in my opinion, should really be followed up on a regular basis.I am NOT, nor do I profess to be, a Qualified Debt Adviser. I have made MANY mistakes and have OFTEN been the unwitting victim of the the shamefull tactics of the Financial Industry.
If any of my experiences, or the knowledge that I have gained from those experiences, can help anyone who finds themselves in similar circumstances, then my experiences have not been in vain.

I finally got to watch it today and it was interesting for me as I had read a lot of your comments before seeing the programme and I wanted to see whether I agreed...
I found it sadly lacking in that it didn't correct obvious misunderstandings or inaccuracies. When the retired chef was talking about "being BR twice" purely because he couldn't sort out his leccie bill, I thought someone correct this and put him/it right. His advice worker didn't seen to be offering much advice or help at all..... didn't get that.
The social worker seemed a little naieve at times and seemed to be blundering through it without much help or guidance. It would have been better to show someone actually looking for advice on t'internet (and possibly finding this board) before tackling the process.
The couple were I am afraid an accident waiting to happen. She, bless her, was in a real predicament... not only was she struggling with the debts but also with hubby as well ...... a shame.
I would have liked a little longer at the end for people to take down the Action Line number seeing as that was the only help the programme makers offered....

Something else that bugged me was why they were all left to fill in the br forms on their own? I'm not too bad at forms, but CAB filled them in for me when I was considering it. Watching the single mum take them in to be checked I couldn't help thinking it would have been quicker for them to fill them in for her from scratch than it was for them to go through correcting the mistakes.Unless I say otherwise 'you' means the general you not you specifically.0

Documentaries, by their nature, document. If the film-makers hadn't been present, the treatment wouldn't have been any different and that needed to be conveyed. Don't forgot, this didn't only follow the principal people but also showed what could be expected - showing that even professional or expert help can fall woefully short.blind-as-a-bat wrote: »And to allow that to continue, asuming the programme producers/makers where aware the advice was wrong/bad/inadiquet, just to make another tv programme should in itself be condemned.blind-as-a-bat wrote: »Im sorry, thats not 'entertainment'

I think this too - the BBC is biased - they were probably trying to scare the pants of people watching - they didnt show anything about things improving for the people after br - only that with debt you cant pay, you end up worse off - thats the impression I got - the family lost their house and are homeless, the single woman lost her car and the older guy was still being hounded for money - it didnt show any hope for any of the situations.
Im sure the government, banks and media are just trying to depress the population and destroy our hope.:j Goodbye debt - Hello sanity! :j0
