Well we've got our first infestation today:rolleyes: . We've done everyone with tea tree conditioner and the nit comb. Realise I'll need to repeat it but do I keep DS at home till he's been treated for next few days or not?

I would think that if he is free from the little guests, he should be ok to go - just keep combing daily to ensure that
    a) no more have come to visit
    b) the original lot haven't laid eggs
to be honest, I would check each day anyway just to be sure. I am glad we are out of that routine now. It makes me itch just remembering them!

conditioner and a metal fine tooth comb get rid of the lice. Vinegar dissolves the eggs. Use both

makes you wonder if our grannies' use of vinegar as a rinse was a face saving (?head saving?) excuse for what was good preventive hygiene.

Anyway nits and lice are a doddle compared with threadworms.

washing all the bedding in the house everyday for two weeks and ironing it with a hot iron was the only thing that broke the cycle. That and putting micropore tape over her back passge at night to catch the eggs.

and hand washing hand washing and more handwashing!!
It doesn't matter if you are a glass half full or half empty sort of person. Keep it topped up! Cheers!

Well I rang the school and they won't allow him back till he's had treatment to kill the eggs. Yet another term we don't get full attendance in  and we honly had this week to go

Anyway I bought some stuff from the chemist. Then I read the above post, so that's what the vinegar did. Cheers mary:beer: . I forgot to ask mum. Anyway I think from now on I'll resort to using the tea tree conditioner and the vinegar on a regular basis to prevent them. The use it up thread has had me discovering I have 4 bottles of different vinegar.(white malt, brown malt, white wine and balsamic) Don't suppose it matters which I use for a final rinse does it?

I think my son has his first bout of nits  Are they small black things ? These things are not moving but he has something stuck on his hairs ? If they are nits, how does the vinegar idea work ? Do I wash his hair and then put vinegar on and leave it ?

Sorry for so many questions but I am itching and I'm not sure if it is just in my mind or that I have got something too !!!

    Bek x
  • Its normally the eggs that are stuck to the hair shaft and the actual nits are normally moving.

  • Am I too late to answer your help request Os. My Mum used to use the Nit comb and a vinegar rinse. We didn't have any special lotions or potions when I was a little girl - a very long time ago. Might be worth a try. The vinegar wasn't neat, we did dilute it and then I would sit on the floor in front of Mum while she used the comb. I still like my hair combed so could be very theraputic for your daughter. That is if you have lots of time, it does take ages.

  • My daughter started school and got infested regularly, used chemicals the first time - not nice at all. Much prefer combing with conditioner. Also was recommended using tea tree shampoo and conditioner for normal hair washing as they don't like the stuff, now use asda's own make tea tree and mint shampoo and conditioner all the time and have had no more of the little pests!
