A lovely, simple and delicious sweet - thats good for you and quite cheap?
Dip fruit in dark chocolate (Lidl 55p for 100g 73% coco butter).
Melt chocolate in dish above simmering water, dip fruit and place on greaseproof paper to set - don't refrigerate. I've tried cherries (leave stalks on), orange segments and strawberries dipped about 3/4 way up - they're all good.0 -
halloweenqueen wrote:Purplemoon, what about things to go on the chocolate once they've dipped, they do those nice little shakers of 100's & 1000's and choccy bits in a lot of supermarkets.
No, as much as I like cheese even I wouldn't want to see it cascading like that- be sticking to the choc I think. Caramel tempting but would need plenty of people to mop it up. Will be trying slow cooker for this one cos with just 2 I think a kilo of choc might be a little much!0 -
Me thinks this thread will get busier and busier as people think about the big day!
Breakfast is all planned. Bucks Fizz, Fruit Salad, Muffins, Pain au chocolat, Flask of Tea and probably something else. Will have a look around Tesco when I go (picking up an R&R on the way hopefully! lol). Im going to go for a Breakfast Picnic theme, seen some cute paper plates and bowls etc, got a lil gift cracker and some heart shaped confetti (again from Tesco) and will put it all in a hamper with some proper glasses for the Bucks Fizz. A Housemate is going to get up and let me in, so I will buy the housemate a rose for her troubles bless her.
Btw, all these suggestions and post etc ... you've all got to repost and say how it went cos im really curious now!!! lol0 -
Not ALL of how it went - just the bits suitable for before the nine o'clock thresholdHi, I'm a Board Guide on the Old Style and the Consumer Rights boards which means I'm a volunteer to help the boards run smoothly and can move and merge posts there. My valentine is playing backgammon tonight! How'd it go? Ok. Don't think I'll use the food delivery thingy again- had some trouble. Slow cooker is great for melting choc- and then eating it in the living room! Wouldn't recommend the recipe- the coconut cream is impossible to taste and doesn't help the texture.
I sound hard to please, don't I? It was nevertheless an enjoyable evening- hope you all enjoy tonight!!!0 -
My meal for OH went down well even though I bought all pre-prepared stuff so we could actually spend some time together talking instead of me being in the kitchen. :happyhear I think I might try to squirrel away a bit of money each week so we can make it our monthly date night - if we kept it to the 14 it would be very handy as well since our anniversary is the 14th May :happyhearCreeping back in for accountability after falling off the wagon in 2016.Need to get back to old style in modern ways, watching the pennies and getting stuff done!0

If anyones still there... Do you know what I can undrunk pink cava for (its flat!)? I'm guessing it'll add to things you add white wine to- but any food in particular it'll work well with? I don't eat meat btw.0

Breakfast was fantastic.
She was so shocked to see me, and really enjoyed it ... fruit salad, mini danish pastries from Tesco, Pain au Chocalates ... and bucks fizz!0 -
That sounds very sweet. Nobody's ever done anything like that for me.... Boo hoo. (I had a Valentines treasure hunt once- think I'd have preferred posh grub though!)0

purplemoon, first of all you should have drunk it all ! .....................barring that you could have saved it by the old little spoon trick.
Any bubbly (or sparkling for that matter) left unfinished, just put a stainless steel spoon handle into the bottle neck, leave it and it'll keep for a day or two in the fridge........................not that I have too much experience of it mind you.
It has worked when I have done it though.
