I've put it on the recipe thread here:

It's not a spur of the moment dish - the marinade needs 24 hours. I'm not sure I'd describe it as a cheap dish either - depends on your greengrocer.
Still wish I could buy a TARDIS instead of a house!

Not something to eat... but you did say you might be having something fizzy.

Have you tried sparkling shiraz? You said you'd be having venison so the red sparkles would fit in there. My OH and I discovered it a few years ago and it really is rather nice!

You have the benefit of red wine but the fizz makes you giggly! Just the thing for a romantic night in. We love it so much now we are actually serving it at our wedding (Bonfire Night, so the sparkles are even more appropriate)

Prices range from £5.99 ( if it is on a special at Tesco) to the more normal £7.49 or so and you can go up to about £10. Most supermarkets stock it now.

Enjoy your romantic meal - three cheers for romance!

If you fancy a pud, a rasperry creme brulee will go lovely after venison :)
 Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.

I hope I've posted this in the right place.

I want to cook my husband a lovely meal to say thank you for being so fabulous and supporting me through my icky times.

But I'm not much of a cook and not got a huge amount of money to blow on it. So please, if anyone can suggest something, straightforward, that wont take forever to prepare and cook but is still lovely and shows I care - main course and pudding please!

Just so you know he hates mushrooms and the taste of egg.

Chicken pieces on the bone are tasty and economical :)

You could put them skin side down in a hot pan and let them get nice and brown and then turn over and finish cooking. When they are done, take them out and put a couple of chopped cloves of garlic in the pan and a glass of white wine. Let it bubble away and then at the end add some salt and pepper and a knob of butter and ideally some parsley. It is yummy served with mash and green veggies.

You can also do it with white fish but flour them first.

Dessert could be strawberries and cream or make a meringue out of egg whites and turn it into a pavlova (drooling at the thought!)
  • He strikes me a steak and chips man. A decent piece of steak isnt that pricey, do some nice home-made chips and a bit of whatever veg he likes. For desert some vanilla ice-cream with crushed maltesers is really nice and couln't be easier. If you're not great in the kitchen maybe you could show him how much you appreciate him in other ways ;)
And if, you know, your history...
