An OS Valentine's meal?

  • I always used to find eating Spagbol infront of OH embarrasing, as I'd end up with it all over me face, chin and down me top (although OH used to say he would have that later-perv!! LOL). Would stay away from anything spicy and strong smelling.

    Nice easy starters are:

    Soup and fresh bread roll
    Pate on Toast
    Calamaris (squid) rings and dip
    Prawn Cocktail
    Melon
    Oysters

    Main Meals:

Chicken in creamy mushroom sauce and rice
Push the boat out abit and have lobster with melted butter-serve with salad
    Lamb Shank, Mash & Veg
Sirloin with HM chips-always goes down well

    Puddings

Something to share like a big bowl of ice cream with 2 spoons. Add marshmellows, cream, nuts etc etc. My fav is vanilla ice cream with melted snickers on top....yummy!!!!!!!!!

Personally, I dont like the love heart stuff on glasses etc as I think they look OTT, but hows about setting a table with name cards and put something mushy on it like "the man I love" or "to my valentine".....think Im gonna puke..LOL or something similar IYKWIM. Set the table up all posh and serve the main meal on a large dish so you can help yourself, then you or them wont feel like they have to eat whatever youve served on their plate-they can just eat what they want and have more etc. If you dont have a table, serve on the floor picnic style.

Grab a couple of nice bottles of plonk-depending on what your serving and maybe serve a nice Irish Coffee later in the evening, or maybe cheese and crackers.

Im sure it will be lovely whatever you do. Some of the meals above arent cheap but at least you will have the full privacy of having the meal at home.

    Good Luck

I was thinking about doing the same thing on Valentines day, sis will be out and hopefully DD will be asleep. I'm going to make

Pate and Melba Toast with HM Chutney for Starter (DH favourite)
Moules Mariner (sp) with HM crusty bread for main course (my favourite)
Vanilla ice cream with bits of fudge brownies and maltesses and chocolate sauce for dessert.
Got some Cava left over from Christmas and a really nice bottle of white wine to go with it

Here you go - chicken recipe as promised.

If I was making it for just the 2 of us, I'd halve the number of chicken thighs suggested (ie use 8 instead of 16) but leave EVERYTHING else the same - the sauce is too good!!

Ohhh this has got me in the moooood (for eating :p - you saucy lot) PP If you and Mr PP don't mind a goosberry I'll join your romantic dinner a deux. :D It all sounds wonderful, I'm happy to wash up and if he starts foraging in your blouse for leftovers I'll turn a blind eye. LOL

I think I will cook steak cos we never eat it at home, grilled mushrooms and tomatoes, game chips and a peppercorn sauce. I know it's a bit trad but I like it and follow with some (too expensive to buy normally) Ben and Jerry's Ice cream, a couple of bottles of plonk and a baileys u like coffee. Will alert Mrs MATH of my intentions tonight so we can start saving up our weight-watcher points as of NOW!

  • Oh MATH!!..you do make me laugh!!

Steak is a great meal choice and pretty easy to prepare/make.

Your always welcome here and would put Mr PP on best behaviour. If your ever down this way...just let us know.

    BTW-Whats game chips?

Last year I got heart shaped toast spread with strawberry jam in bed and flowers delivered to me and chocolates and a huge card. We wont be together this valentines day though :(

My better half is at University, and therefore any plans of mine have to revolve around that.

Instead of a dinner, im thinking about getting up very early and surprising her with breakfast. I know lots of her mates in the halls and im hoping they will be co-operative and cut me a key or let me in!

Anyone have any ideas for breakfast, considering im going to have to drive for around 45 minutes before I get there - and I dont really have the oppotunity to make anything whilst im there. There is always McDonalds - as long as she don't tell my mates. She can tell me she loves me though ... ;-)
  • anything would be lovely if you have the house to yourselves. You could think about a bedroom picnic.

Strawberries with chocolate sauce, cold meats with avocado, chocolates, icecream, champagne or fizzy wine, yogurt with honey, olives, anything that you can eat with your fingers or feed each other with a spoon.

Then a nice mango in the bath! lol. Actually a nice bubble bath together and an early night would be my idea of bliss.

I expect we will go out to get some peace and then have to tiptoe quietly around the bedroom if you know what i mean. 5 more adults in the house all of them teens!!! Parents don't have love lives you know!!! lol

What about bucks fizz (doesnt have to be expensive, you can get supermarket brands quite cheaply), then fresh fruit salad (you could make your own and transport it in a tupperware, or buy it ready made if you think it'll be easier) served with natural yoghurt, a pot of tea / coffee, and a chocolate heart for pud. If you take a bit of trouble with the presentation (nice tray, plates that match, milk jug, tea / coffee pot, small bunch of flowers etc) then that'll win far more 'brownie points' than whatever food you prepare. At the end of the day, all we really want is to know that you thought about it and put a bit of effort in, I think you're onto a winner whatever you serve - good luck!!
