Talk about exageration ! 8 or 9 x ???where did you dream that one up,or do you believe evrything you read in the daily mail? Why should one not begrudge? How can you justify a family of four being given to live on eight or nine times the amount of money a single working person has? Why not reduce the benefits to the family with children and tell them to learn to be grateful for what they have?0 -
I worked hard to get to where i am today thats why i get a salary and paid holidays. People who chose not to work (not people who cant due to illness) dont need these things so your point is redundant. Im not luckly to still have a job in this so called credit crunch as my job is not effected by it.0

Briona,
You dont have a problem with people wrongly claiming benefits......0 -
There is a lot of problems with the benefit system but the fact remains our taxes cover hell of a lot more than benefits paid to people who do not work!
I'd be the first to agree there are too many people choosing benefits over work but at the same time, I would not like to live in a country which left those unable to work in the gutter!
What does amuse me with these threads though, is nobody wants to grab this great benefit lifestyle with open hands?
Begs the question of how good it actually is in reality doesn't it?
When you weigh everything up long term, the 'benefits' of working are clear and that is why most of us choose to do so rather than sit on our rears and take advantage of all the freebies, isn't it?
As for people putting money over their family living together, I won't comment, as I find it sad to say the least!0 -

I certainly don't condone benefit fraud, and have gone as far as to advise some posters when they are in danger of (or are actually) committing it. The fact is though that no matter how many checks are in place some people are always going to slip through the cracks or will figure out how to play the system. But personally I have better things to think about than who claims what and whether they're entitled.
Yes, I work, and yes, I pay tax, but for me the important figure on my payslip is the net one – why get stressed out about the amount of tax you're paying and who it's going to support?
Instead, I am grateful that I have my health and CAN work – plenty of people don't. I'm glad that I have the education and the ambition to get myself a job – there are many people out there who simply lack the will or ambition to get off their *rses. I'm happy that I can command the salary I do, and consequently can afford the life I want and that I don't have to rely on benefits. And honestly I'd much rather plan my next holiday than get wound up about what so-and-so down the road appears to be claiming!
BrionaIf I don't respond to your posts, it's probably because you're on my 'Ignore' list.0 -
