Hi,
my partner and i have got back together after a years seperation.
I contribuite £1050 of my salary for all of the bills leaving me £200pm.
WHAT THIS NOW MEANS THOUGH IS AFTER ALL BILLS WE ARE WORSE OFF TOGETHER THAN APART (WE BOTH HAD £700PM AFTER)
its just a rant but what is going wrong where couples are better off seperataed.
I have paid tax all of my life as has my partner but we are penalised for doing the right thing and declaring all our earnings and being honest. THIS SUCKS!

so how can you be worse off?
You dont have 2 overheads to pay out, so surely one of you will be saving a whole wage worth of money. Unless of course you where getting all the HB CT etc that was going.
Why do people moan about not having any money when their partner moves in (back in) whatever.
Surely if you love each other and want to live together then you will just make it work, not look into the past and think....
Oh I used to have x amount of money.
But then maybe im just cynical!
p.s whats the gd?

As harsh as it sounds, learn to budget or learn to live with each other again. What kind of age do we live in where people value money above relationships and family?!
I get so sick of the "I have paid tax all my life" rant. So have many people, albeit not all of their lives since the earliest you could legally contribute to the system is 16. Frustratingly, what a number of tax payers fail to understand is that the State is NOT your personal savings account – you don't necessarily get to take out what you've put in. That's life – you should be grateful for the fact that you earn a wage and DON'T have to rely on State handouts.
If you want a fund on which you can draw when times get hard then open a savings account.
I'm intrigued by one thing though – if you're both working and have apparently both paid tax "all your life", then (a) why is this on the benefits board and not the employment board, and (b) how has life suddenly gotten financially worse – what State handouts have suddenly disappeared?!follows2006 wrote: »I have paid tax all of my life as has my partner

Ok, I'm not going to jump down your neck cos I can identify with your problem, Iam though intrigued how you are worse off. Any chance you can quickly explan that?
You have one set of outgoings as opposed to two, the only problem you could find is any benefits you received before like TC will be more orless non existent.99.9% of my posts include sarcasm!Touch my bum :money:Tesco - £1000 , Carpet - £20, Barclaycard - £50, HSBC - £50 + Car - £1700SAVED =£0Debts - £28500 -

Wow, poor sap only has £200 a month to go spend on beer. Life must be shockingly hard. I suspect that when he had the £700, we were no doubt footing the bill for his kids.Conor

Sorry if this is off topic or on the wrong board but why do married couples get penalised for staying together and having kids ?T&C APPLY0

If you are happy living together, that's worth a lot more than money. It's not a bed of roses living alone.0
