Bit narked at our venue, they are a hotel/restaurant, they have an ad in the local paper for a set menu at £11, our menu is actually very similar and we are paying £24, just cos they put the "W" word on it !!!
I know there is a bit more involved in catering for a wedding but:mad: . To top it all special offer if 2 people have a set menu they get a free bottle of wine!! NOT FAIR. Or am I being silly.
Oh you are SO not being silly :mad: That would nark the living daylights out of me.
I'd be on the phone 'renegotating';)0 -

That is terrible!! You are not going to mind a few extra £ because as you say, extra work, however £13 each is disgusting and no extras? I cant believe these venues taking the mick so much!! Mine is linked to a charity so there has been none of this business, the price is the price for all, wedding or not.We are off to Vietnam and Thailand in August!!!!!! Dont tell me we've made a mistake!?!?!:eek:
I dont know about Vietnam but in Thailand August is the rainy season for most of Thailand. But it depends where in Thailand youre going. For example we arent visiting Koh Samui in Jan because its rain season there then - I would check with your travel agent, or if you booked direct try tripadvisor maybe? Sorry if I have worried you and I hope that its not raining where you choose to go.0 -
faye1978 - date quadruplets! Yay!
I'm sure Vietnam and Thailand will be fine, even if it does rain it will still be warm and the photos I've seen with big umbrella look lovely)
I went to look at my dream veil yesterday - its sooo pretty - and then emailed my Nan a description of it so she can make it for me! ha ha ha (evil laugh) how dare they try to charge me £200 for a veilCurrently studying for a Diploma - wish me luck
Phase 1 - Emergency Fund - Complete :j

Do you think so? No idea how to approach it though, scared they will do something terrible to spoil the day!!
Aaargh what to do???
They won't do anything to spoil your day.. i promise. They should be more scared that you will cancel your booking;)
Ring them and speak to them.. point out that the menus are almost the same and ask for either an upgraded menu, or a reduction in price. You may find that they offer to throw the wine in or something.
If they say no ask to speak to the manager and then request a costing to be given to you justifying the discrepancy between the 2 prices.
I'm still mad on your behalf!!:rotfl:0 -

No I don't think your been silly i would be fuming. I would ring and say you have seen the advert and you wondered if they could do something closer to the price for yourself and a few free bottles of wine thrown in, it is annoying when the W word pushes up the price ggrrrrr :mad: you never know fingers crossed they will do something but you won't know until you ask good luck x0 -
Well got lots done this week-
* made favour boxes
* made place cards
* ordered flowers & paid deposit (ended up getting real flowers)
* booked hair & make up for me & bridemaids & paid deposit
* ordered bridesmaid dresses from milly
* ordered mirror plates for table centres
* got fascinators for bridesmaids
I am feeling pleased with myself I am getting good at this :T0 -
Yayyyy!!! I am a date quad.
I heard that it's more likely to have a monsoon in September than August and if it does rain it'll be a 10 minute downpour. That's what I am hoping anyway!:j0 -
I have enveloped up the invites I made and just waiting on prices for a couple of accomodation places for family and they will be off. :j Am so glad to get those done - the most tedious task in the world!!!!!
Get our wedding rings tomorrow too :j and I am off outfit shopping with the mother in law and my Mum. :eek: They have only met a few times nd things are awkward between them.
I have ordered the flowers - my friend is doing them at cost for me although I have no idea how much 'cost' is at the moment just know that she said if it was retail they would cost £1000 :eek: So I may need to rethink that depending on the cost price!!!
Then I will get my Veil next week (a plain one for £20) and add crystals and pearls to it to match my dress!! I am not paying any more than £20 for it
Then just table plans and numbers and placecards left I think. Oh and my hair and possibly makeup! I'm getting there! :T
And Violetta, I would DEFINATELY call teh venue and ask that they offer you a similar deal - after all you are paying for a lot of people to eat there not just a family of four or a couple. They could at least drop the price a bit or give you a percentage off wine or a few free bottles or something. That would pee me off big time!!!0 -
Aw thank's girls, I'm going to do a bit of research over the weekend then maybe speak to them next week. I spoke to my friend who has worked in catering and she say's they may justify it by saying they need to employ the extra staff ie chef/waiting staff on top of the normal restaurant staff but just, can't see how more than doubling the cost is justified.Booo!!!0
