Hope someone can help with some advice re planting in a shaded area of my garden.

At the back of our garden, we've got some conifer trees. We keep them at a reasonable height, but they still cast a shadow over the rear of my vegetable plot.

This area does get some sun at the very beginning of the day from the east until about 10.30 when the sun starts to move around behind the trees.

Other than that it's fairly shaded until late in the day when it might get a bit of sun from the west when the sun's setting behind next door's fence.

Are there any veg that would be ok in this shaded spot? I don't want to waste the soil if I can get a crop of something out of it.

The rest of the plot gets plenty of sun, so that's not a problem.

Many thanks for any advice you can give me. :D

I am told that herbs like Chive, mints and parsley are shade tolerant. Fruits such as raspberries, blackcurrants, gooseberry and rhubarb are plants of the woodland edge so again are also shade tolerant. Asparagus, beetroot and kohl rabi are veg that are shade tolerant.

What I grow in my shady spot that only gets sun in the morning till 11ish... are rhubarb, Angelica, sage and loveage. These all do very well. I also planted last year some raspberries and red currants and I await to see how they do this year.
