A lot of salad leaves should be fine..they may grow a bit slower but things like spinach bolt really quickly if they get too warm.. as i would know as i have had one lot do it allready and its only May  ..
Would you be able to place an old mirror anywhere to bounce the sunlight in to the area? only my sister did this as she had the same problem;)
Wondering about beans too as they don' like to get too hot, and they love being sheltered from the wind -so your conditions should suit
Ooh...salad leaves...that would do me nicely. Thanks for that...oooh...wishing I hadnt given away an old mirror to a charity shop now...darn it!
Do you think any type of beans would be okay? I am not keen on runner beans - but I do eat fine beans and I've read about those types of beans one can grow and then use them as dried beans.0 -
I have a small garden , and my house is north facing which means that half my garden is in the shade most the day. The sunny area is full with vegtable plants , yet the shady area looks empty.
Does anyone know what vegtables I could grow there in pots ?
many thanksKindness costs nothing

I don't know about veg, but I believe certain gooseberry bushes don't mind shade and will still fruit.TOP MONEYSAVING TIP
Make your own Pot Noodles using a flower pot, sawdust and some old shoe laces. Pour in boiling water, stir then allow to stand for two minutes before taking one mouthful, and throwing away. Just like the real thing!0 -

Just thought , potatoes could be grown there too I imagine

Not disagreeing, but I have tried rhubarb in the shade and it did nothing for me.
As said, blackcurrants tend to do well everywhere, I just wish I knew how to use the fruit more!
Tayberries would grow well up a trellis that only has part sun.Freedom is not worth having if it does not include the freedom to make mistakes.0 -

Are they any vegetables that can be grown in shade, one half of my garden (the side that has the most space) is under trees so gets little sun, there are also lots of roots there but will have to work around those, not wanting to plant anything too fancy, already do tomatoes and beans, and looking to do maybe potatoes and carrots and some salad items, but any info appreciated..

There is a useful article here that lists vegetables that can be grown in shade.
I have a similar situation with one of my beds. I have successfully grown peas, runner beans, radishes, chard, broccolli, beetroot and salad veg there without any issue. Generally, traditional UK crops do OK - the mediterranean ones such as peppers and courgettes don't tend to do quite as well, although I have produced courgettes no problem - they don't crop quite as heavily.
Thanks to MSE, I am mortgage free!

I grow spuds, runner beans, broad beans, carrots and parsnips in the shade every year. In my experience even tomatoes and peppers will grow but not crop as heavily and take a long time to ripen.0
