Did you not manage to get a home visit instead. I was lucky they just sent me a letter saying that i came into an exempt group and so did not have to have a medical. Good luck with it next week.

I can ask my doctor to write to them requesting one. Did they say why you were exempt? Did you request a home visit?

I filled in the IB50 and said on it that due to my condition i would not be able to attend a medical i would need a home visit. To make sure i rung them up and they said that they would not be able to do one without a letter from my gp(no other person would do must be gp). I got my gp to do one and sent it off to atos and a few weeks later got a letter saying that i did not need to do anything as i came into an exempt group(must be severe mental illness i think) and would carry on getting my benefit for as long as i was exempt. I breathed a sigh of relief.

Just a little something that might make you smile...!!

My neighbour has been on IB for many years and recently had to have a medical from the ATOS people. She asked to have the medical at home as she is virtually housebound with arthritis, and this was agreed.

She has two hulking great Rottweilers that as really soft, but look anything but.

The doctor was Asian, and I've heard that not many Asian people like dogs much. The dogs are female, and could lick for England. So when the doctor saw the dogs, he asked if they were "ok" and she said they were fine.

The bigger one ambled over to the doctor, had a good sniff of his nether regions then started licking him. Not to be outdone, the other dog came over, dispensed with the sniff and just went for the licking.

The doctor was shaking and cowering, and asked my neighbour to put the dogs outside as he doesn't like dogs. She said she couldn't as the dogs would need to be manhandled outside (not strictly true...!) and she'd need to wait for her husband to get home as she wasn't physically able.

The poor doctor raced through some questions in 5 minutes flat then legged it out of the house.

She heard today that she had passed the medical test. She knew she would anyway, but her dogs at least got the medical cut short!!

It actually doesn't make me smile at all. I feel sorry for the poor Dr. Some people are terrified of dogs and it's not funny to laugh at their fear.

    Just my 2ps worth.

An interesting and opiniated thread!! Each to there own I guess its what makes the world go round after all...

I have been on IB since June last year and had a medical in November and was granted 6 months before a review. I had another IB50 sent to me which I duly completed and returned. I was a little apprehensive about what this meant so called DWP as to what the process or next step would be. They informed me that it would be unlikely that I would have to go for another medical. I am now awaiting a response to my form. I was wondering whether other people had been requested to go for another assessment?? I suppose I should say that I am suffering with post natal depression.

    thank you in advance.

It does vary, but alot of people have to go for assessments numerous times. The review period you have been given of 6 months is quite short compared to alot of other people so maybe that is why the DWP have said it is unlikely you will need another medical this time.

When I rang yesterday I was told my doctor can write a letter to request a home visit or for the dwp to arrange a taxi to get there as I suffer severe anxiety too especially on public transport. But today ive had 2 calls from atos to make an appoinment only to be told after going through my security there is none available and I will go back in the system so will keep receiving calls daily until an appointment can be made.they seem to have forget or dont care that I cant even try to see my doctor until Tuesday. Ive got a feeling theyre going to leave me feeling harassed

Luckily when I received my IB50 in July they also asked for a Med4. I then received a letter saying I was exempt from having a medical. It will be interesting to see how long I am "exempt" for and when I receive my next IB50.
