Which brings me to the next question - what cars appear to be free from Distintagratebelum?
  • we had a 52 plate tdci tiptronic mondeo ghia, it has been the worst car we have ever had! 3 lots of injectors £1000 a time ,diesel pump and duel mass flywheel replaced, i wish we had never purchased the car to be honest! although when it was good the car was good, but i would never recommend one to anybody

    lost so far 11.5 lbs
  • Sorry about resurrecting an ancient thread, but, as I mentioned in an earlier post, I got Mr Clutch to replace the DMF thing with a retrofit flywheel and the car is now doing 12% more miles to the gallon!
In case you think I am getting the wrong conclusion from the data, I have owned the car for over 8 years and have always averaged around 39/40mpg, in the last 3 months it is regularly over 45...
    Chuck those rubbish DMFs.

where did you get your retrofit kit from?
Problem with having access to internet is that i get asked by many to solve their problems :( Well at least i learn something on the way :D
  • From Mr Clutch in Kingston-upon-Thames. They were very helpful and seemed to know all about the DMF problems.

Should have got your clutch done at the same place as spankymonkey who somehow managed to get a
    DMF replaced on an automatic?

  • My Ford Focus 2.0TDI DMF went at 69k and 1 year warranty bought with second hand car deemed this as standard wear and tear so not paying anything toward £1000 bill. Feel that I have been misold a warranty that's not worth the paper its written on.

Anyone else been though this before?

In my opinion none of the warranties sold are any good, They usually exclude anything thats wear and tear, On a car thats not much left.
They can also exclude electrical issues and diagnostic work to trace faults.

69k miles the clutch must have been abused a bit. Did you read what the warranty does cover?

How long have you had the car and how many miles have you covered since purchase?

My mk3 Mondeo is on over 160k on the original DMF, clutch and starter.

Actually i have spent almost nothing on repairs in the 80k i have put on it in almost three years.

It doesn't drive as neatly as it did when i bought it and i am doing the front discs and pads on Monday, but as they have been on there since i bought the car they have lasted well.

I had to clean the EGR valve, replaced the hose leading to the egr a month after purchase and both handbrake cables and rear discs and pads this time last year.

I would have a mk3 again if i was in need of wheels. But i am on the lookout for some new wheels soon, i am seriously considering the mk4 Mondeo estate, but as i now need an auto i am leaning towards a Cmax with a petrol engine and autobox then convert to lpg or.buying a japanes estate in petrol auto and again going for lpg.
Accord Tourer and Subaru Legacy/Forester are all in the running.

One thing about my mk3 Mondeo is after all these miles there is no wear on the seats, steering wheel or gearknob! Just a little wear on the gearstick gaiter.
Certainly a resilient vehicle, still many round Romford and Thurrock being used for Private Hire.
