Mondeo TDCi Dual Flywheel nonsense

Can anyone tell me whether a DMF failure/Starter motor failure connected to the DMF would be covered by a warranty?
If I do get myself a TDCi Mondy, I was also thinking of buying a 2/3 year warranty - something like the Tesco scheme?0 -

It happened to a friend of mine who went through 2 starter motors then found it was the DMF. He pushed ford repeatedly and got some sort of compensation towards the cost despite his car being out of warranty.
I also had a pug 307 which had dmf failure at approx 40k but this was covered under warranty.0 -
I am looking at getting a New (ish) Mondeo, probably on an 05/55 plate. I am looking at the 2.0, 130 bhp model, with < 50k miles.
I have read numerous posts about these cars having problems with the flywheel(s?) and that it can cost up to £1,000 to fix.
So my question is what do I need to look out for?
If I chose an automatic (I've seen a nice one I like), would could I still be exposed to similar problems?
Is there anything else I need to look out for?
This is the point that needs answering for the op.
I'm not expert on the Mondeo but know of it's problem and that of several other manufacturers, but every auto engine /box that I've worked on has not used the manual flywheel with the autobox, torque converter etc comes into play. Not sure about modern Fords tho'I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.
Will the grammar and spelling police respect I do make grammatical errors, and have carp spelling, no need to remind me.;)
Always expect the unexpected:eek:and then you won't be dissapointed0 -
I have heard of kits which can change the DMF style system to a normal type which is a standard flywheel, clutch and pressure plate. Some say this can put extra strain on the gearbox because the DMF dampens a lot of vibration such that less is transmitted to the gearbox. Naturally the standard kit does not have that damping effect so more vibrations will go through. This is what i have been told so feel free to correct me if i am wrong.Problem with having access to internet is that i get asked by many to solve their problems
Well at least i learn something on the way

Problem is the automatic transmission on the Ford is also unreliable. Only got better within the last couple of years. I'd say go with the manual but budget for change within 100k if you keep it that long.0

that's a funny scheme..
tesco's definition of a "prestige" vehicle is very odd...
under the scheme, all models of the ford galaxy are classed as prestige? arguably the 2.8 VR6 engine model is prestige, perhaps, but a 1.9 diesel?!
tesco must know something about the reliability of the galaxy!0 -
Only if the DMF snaps. I asked our warranty dept about this. they say if it fails due to it braking up thne they will pay out. however, the DMF never break up, just fail lol.
As for £330 for a starter - OMFG!!!
I sourced a new starter for mine from ebay for 80quid inc postage I think. DMF was £165 and another £165 was labour.0 -

i dont know why folk put new starters or alternators on thier car, as most can be refurbished for around £50...work permit granted!0 -
Warranties on 2nd hand cars need the small print reading very carefully.
I was offered one a few years ago & it basically said anything that can be replaced with the engine in the car wasnt covered. Useless...0 -

All the people I speak to will not refurb a Mondeo starter. Or if they do, they wont guaranty it to work.
But yes, I agree - we fit refurbed on other stuff.0
