OS Daily Wed 14th Jan 2009

Hi, this is the Daily Thread for Wed 14th January. This is an “Over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone is welcome so please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred.
When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.
Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “Hi everyone, hope you are all well”, type start does just as well

Morning. Temp. 2c Wind 0 Rain 0.5mm (last 24 hrs) Frost
Weather station is working better now as I moved the base station to a closer location. Too much granite in out house affects the reception. (2 foot thick walls)

Woke up early today, but I have a coffee and can enjoy the internet for an hour or so before the house gets busy.
Should be a good morning. OH has supply teaching in her favourite school and yr group, so she is happy. I have work at 12 so can laze about all morning.

I managed some more sorting out yesterday when I tidied the shed, and looked in to the horrors of my fishing tackle box. Last trip of the season everything got flung in the garage and forgotten. Yesterday it was a damp wattery mess of rusty hooks and tangles. So out with the old and in with some new. I shall start rebuilding the stock a few pounds at a time.
Went to find Mum a birthday present and decided I wanted to get her an orange or lemon tree. There was not many around, all sold out. But I found one nice tree, the last one in the garden centre and the nice man reduced it by 50%, so that was handy, it has oranges on it too.
Found mince on offer at the discount meat store 8lbs mince steak for £7. Got 8 nice thick bacon chops for £6 so had them for tea.

Man came last night to finalise the daughters compensation claim for an accident she was in 18 months ago. She won't get much, but there will be free physio and expenses etc. I don't like litigation as it puts prices up, but the idiot 17 yr old driver almost killed her. (He lost his licence thankfully).

Well, hope you all have a good day.

Good morning N9eav - hope your wife enjoys her time at her favourite school! Your buys at the butcher's were good bargains, weren't they?

I hope your DD's compensation claim goes well. My BIL was almost killed when he was knocked off his motorbike six years ago. His life was saved but he then faced the possibility of ending up paralysed. By some miracle and with excellent care at Derriford hospital, he pulled through, but has been left in permanent pain and walking is very difficult. It took four years to get his claim settled - to my mind he got far less than he deserved. The accident changed his and SIL's lives for good, and he's now registered disabled - all the fault of someone who shouldn't have been on the road at all. In his case, I think he should have got more because he had another twenty years of earning to do and his compensation just doesn't reflect this. I'm glad the idiot who almost cost your DD her life had his licence taken away. One more menace off the road.

Lots of (((((((hugs))))))) to those who have sadness in their lives, are unwell or anxious. I hope today is better for you than yesterday was.

Well, today I intend to have a fairly easy day. I was busy yesterday morning, entertained my gorgeous DGD in the afternoon, and had a rush job of work to do in the evening with barely any notice, so I hope today goes as planned! You know what they say about the best-laid plans of mice and men! (or words to that effect!).

Dinner is a fry-up; I have some bacon and sausages to use up so will do them with egg and chips. Pudding will be scones, clotted cream and jam, to finish up the lovely cream BIL and SIL brought with them from Devon at the weekend. So, no cholesterol there, eh?!! Will eat more healthily tomorrow, but you have to have some treats, don't you?

It's quite mild here and has rained in the night; I'm not sure if more rain is forecast.

Anyway, off to have a surf before getting breakfast (porridge, so very healthy!) organised.

    Have a great day.

  • Good morning everyone. It seems to be fairly mild here today. I'm hoping to get out for a long walk with furbaby Bree or perhaps to the park so she can play with her other furry friends.

Brekkie for DH was beans on toast. I tried some toast but my stomach is feeling a bit iffy today. Thankfully my coffee is still tasting and feeling okay. :D

DH's lunch is packed up. Leftover meatloaf sandwich, HM veg soup, HM choc chip cookies for him today. Tea tonight will be HM lasagne which I pulled out of the freezer last night to thaw.

OS today will be tidying up and making bread dough. Kitchen is clean from last night. I may go to the laundrette and wash clothes depending on the weather. Haven't read the forecast yet.

((((((((((((((((Hugs))))))))))))))) to all. The end of last year and the beginning of this one have not been kind to so many. Wishing you a day of peace and good things.

Morning N9eav and Kathy and all to follow,

Seems a bit colder here today, off to work so no worries about putting the heating on, ;) .

I prepared a chicken casserole yesterday, with lentils (thanks Pink ) so will put the sc on on a moment, it will be nice to come home to a warm meal all cooked, will just do some cous cous with it, it has plenty of veg in it :T

We had news of the court case yesterday, unfortunatly its not good news, the bloke got away with it, their defence was that the bloke had asked if my nephew was 16 and he had said yes , but because he has a learning difficulty if you asked him if he was 54 he would have said yes . I am so mad, another abuser has walked free  , and my poor nephew has had to go through months of anxiety for nothing

Anyway onto OS, will tidy round this morning, rubbish and recycling to go out, sc to go on, will do a wash tonight, and I have a sainsbugs delivery coming tonight.

Hugs to all in need, have good days all xx

I'm so sorry to hear the outcome of the court case. It makes me angry when a predator gets off in these cases. Hopefully his name has been in the papers though and people will watch his future actions much more carefully, despite him getting off.

Thick frost & thick fog here this morning, proper fog, not just along the river.
Hubby has changed his route home for the rest of the week & it means he gets home 30mins earlier & I get to park by Lidls, now that's a result.

    Breakfast Porrige
    Lunch Soup
Tea HM Meatloaf from the freezer.

I hope everyone has a good day.
    Hugs Hester

(((Redruby))) so angry at your news, not surprising nowdays but none the less you hope for things to come out 'right'.

Feeling much better today which is lucky as have loads to do. Office this morning then ironing this afternoon.

Menu plan has really been mucked up this week. Tonight will be having lamb chops mash and veg & the kids cheesey pasta.

Little dog is in my bad books this morning - he has shredded his bed overnight. Luckily there is some padding in there at the moment so I wont be buying him a new one but now need to clean all the fluff out of my office.

(((hugs))) to anyone who needs one.

Redruby I am so so sorry to hear of the result of the court case. That is awful that someone should get off with abusing someone so vulnerable and be free to do it again to some other poor soul.

((hugs)) to all those who have sadness or are unwell or just need a hug. There seems to be so much tragedy around at the moment and so many people loosing loved ones. My heart and prayers are with you all.

Dinner tonight will be stovies which are already in the SC. That will be nice and warming when we get home. It is so cold today after the past few mild days. HM soup and Hm bread for lunch today at work as I refuse to mpay canteen prices for horrible food. I just need to get myxself organised to remember to bring it.

DH has the dentist tonight and then I'm there next week. I had forgot about that so hopefully we won't need much done.

Take care all and have a lovely day

    hugs

RedRuby - ((((((hugs))))) to you all and especially your nephew. I'm appalled at the outcome of the case but, like Essex-girl, I'm not surprised. It seems real decent justice is disappearing fast in this country.

Moring - it's cold and foggy here this morning too

Redruby that's dreadful ((hugs to you and your nephew))
N9eav - I'm glad it worked out well for you daughter and that the idiot had his licence taken away.

Not much OS'ing going on - other than throwing some chickpeas on to soak as I left. :) Dinner will probably include them, or will be pasta if I'm home late (quite likely) I asked OH to switch the washing machine on as he leaves - I felt a bt mean doing it as I left at 6 am this morning :)

Have a good day all, cel x

    Morning all

(((((Hugs)))))Redruby-thats awful that he got off. You must feel very let down and angry at the justice system.

It is a mild morning here and dry so far. I am hoping it will be nice like yesterday so I can hang washing out to dry again- was lovely to hang the towels out to dry yesterday!
Today I have to wait in for parcel that they tried to deliver yesterday- of course have no idea WHEN/IF they will turn up as it is Citilink and they are very unreliable in my experience!

Anyway shall make the most of being in today and catch up on housework and decluttering- I sorted the study and filing out last week but there is still a pile of junk to go in the trash and recycling.

BM is about to go on as is the WM. I shall use up some apples that are slightly past their best today in an apple cake for dessert.

Tuna Pasta bake for tea as I am biting the bullet tonight and joining Weightwatchers! I am very overweight and am not motivated on my own so Weightwatchers it is! Tea needs to be quick and easy as I need to be out the door by 6.15!

Well have a good day everyone- I am off to change a stinky diaper!
